The Fleming Federated Youth Group Mission Team will hold a fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today, at St. Isaac Jogues Building on Route 34 in Fleming.
All proceeds benefit the group's mission trip in July to the Dominican Republic. The group hopes to pay for a container of school supplies, sports equipment and new sneakers for the children there along with covering the group's travel expenses.
The event will feature car washes for $5, a bake sale and the group's final book sale. The book bag sale begins at noon. Cost to fill a bag is $2. The group will also take returnable bottles and cans for donations. Used sports equipment will also be collected to send to the Dominican Republic.

Early evangelization topic of program
Retired editor Laurence Maxwell will present a program, “The Burned Over District,” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, at the Frontenac Museum, 178 Cayuga St., Union Springs.
The Burned Over District is a name given by historians to an area of central and western New York which was heavily evangelized during the early to mid-19th century, resulting in a lack of “fuel” or unconverted population left to “burn” or convert. The lack of clergy resulted in lay people developing a number of innovative religious movements, such as the Millerites, Spiritualism, the Oneida Society and others.
Maxwell will discuss these movements together with the Shakers and Mormonism.
The program is free and open to the public. For information, contact Pat Kimber at 889-5875.
