Sick boy wants to break record for most cards

Thursday, May 17, 2007 12:16 PM EDT

I can write out a truly heartbreaking story, but I won't! I just want to ask a favor from my hometown.
I am now living in Kentucky and I work a lot with young children and with Relay for Life.

As a four-year survivor this means a lot to me.

There is a little boy that is 5 years old and lives in Kentucky that has cancer and he wants to get into the Guinness Book of World Records. He would like to have the most cards sent to him, for the record. There are no strings attached.

He just wants people to send him a card of encouragement, thinking of you, or get well soon.

Just sign it and send it in the mail! You don't have to send anything, just the card.

I know that Auburn has a huge open and caring heart.

So if you could do this little thing for a young boy, it would be deeply appreciated.

Thank you.

The following is the boy's name and address: Josh Adkins, 124 Edgewood, Stanford, KY 40484.

Again, thank you so much!

" This paper has idiots for editors to post this letter. Go read about the devastation that is wreaked on families when these stupid hoaxes are perpetuated. There is no world record to break. http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/medical/shergold.asp "

" I can't believe the Citizen printed this garbage. The Guiness Book of World Records discontinued the category of the most get well cards several years ago because of hoaxes like this one. This kind of thing overwhelms families and the postal service. A Make-a-Wish office in Atlanta had to relocate once because of one of these "campaigns" and familes have had to move to get away from the constant mail. This kid may be real, but DO NOT SEND CARDS.
