Man charged in alleged kidnapping

A Union Springs man was arrested by the Auburn Police Department Thursday on the allegation he kidnapped an Auburn woman from her home by knifepoint.
John A. Hewitt, 48, of Hibiscus Harbor, 31 Hibiscus Harbor Lane, was charged with the felony of second-degree kidnapping and other offenses. Police allege Hewitt forced the woman from her Belmont Avenue home around 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

Hewitt was taken into custody Thursday afternoon at his residence. Police were alerted to the incident about 2:15 p.m. The woman was not injured, police said.

Police said the investigation is continuing.
