Mills announces run for Legislature
Roger A. Mills, of 6117 Oakridge Road, Auburn, announced last week that he is seeking to fill the District 6 Cayuga County Legislative seat currently held by Democratic legislator Michele Sedor. District 6 represents the towns of Owasco and Sennett.
Mills will seek endorsements from both the Republican and Conservative party committees. If elected, Mills said he would streamline government operations through the use of enhanced technology.
“I would work to consolidate city and county economic development efforts acknowledging the potential for mutually beneficial outcomes,” Mills wrote in a letter to The Citizen.
Mills has worked in the banking industry for 35 years and currently works as a loan officer and business development leader at Tompkins Trust Company.
Sedor announced earlier this year that she is not seeking re-election.
Auburn man charged with menacing
An Auburn man was arrested Sunday by the Auburn Police Department on a charge he threatened to shoot his neighbors after a dispute escalated between the households around 2:15 p.m.
Jesse Lee Claflin, 26, of 40 Orchard St., Auburn, was charged with the misdemeanor of second-degree menacing.
Claflin allegedly pointed a black BB gun, said he would shoot his neighbors and unleash his dog, police said. Claflin's neighbors ran into their house as he threatened them and called police, police said.
Police said Claflin's neighbors also were arguing with him, and the use of a trampoline was part of the dispute.
Man gets eight months for assault
A 21-year-old man was sentenced to eight months in Cayuga County Jail and a $160 state charge for hitting a Savannah man in the head with his fists.
James Thomas, of 115 Standart Ave., Auburn, was sentenced in Auburn City Court Thursday for the misdemeanor of third-degree assault. Thomas' sentencing satisfied another charge that he left the 61-year-old victim untreated.
The Savannah man sustained an open head wound from the younger man's fists during a 2:30 a.m. Feb. 18 dispute and may have been left without hospital treatment for 10 hours in a Park Place, Auburn, residence, according to police.
Three teenagers also were charged with endangering the 61-year-old man's health by leaving him without medical care.
Man admits giving false statement
An Auburn man pleaded guilty in Auburn City Court Tuesday to the violation of disorderly conduct, satisfying the misdemeanor charge he originally faced of giving a false written statement to police.
Kawamie R. Murray, 23, of Apt. 1, 23 West St., Auburn, was sentenced to two weekends in Cayuga County Jail and a $30 fine.
Police said Murray gave a false written statement indicating that his cousin, and not his girlfriend, backed into a neighbor's car parked on Venice Street March 3.
