Maroons sweep doubleheader for three-game win streak

Brittney Babcock pitched 14 consecutive innings for the Auburn softball team and earned her first shutout of the year in a doubleheader against Corcoran on Monday. She didn't walk anyone, struck out three and allowed just six hits in the first game, a 6-0 victory for the Maroons and allowed only three hits, one walk and fanned seven in an 8-1 win in the second game.
After a tough start to the season, Auburn's playoff hopes are still alive after winning three straight. The Maroons defense played errorless softball in both games and racked up 14 stolen bases combined.

Lauren Fedshyn led at the plate in the first game, with a two-run triple. Sarah Doan roped a hit, an RBI and scored a run. Brianne Raftis hit an RBI single, and Shannon McCormick smacked a hit and scored once. Nikki Neagle and Kelly Grinnell each added a hit as well.

In the second game, the Maroons stole as many bases as they scored runs. McCormick, Kristy Piwinski, and Grinnell each earned two thefts. McCormick got two hits and scored a run, while Piwinski and Grinnell scored twice and roped one hit apiece.

Amanda Daum belted two hits, had two RBIs and scored twice. Raftis also had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Doan had an RBI and a single and Maggie Race smashed a triple.

Auburn (7-9) is at West Genesee, Wednesday.

Weedsport 7, Bishop Grimes 4

The Warriors tallied five runs in the second inning to earn the league win. Meghan Short pitched another complete game, allowing three earned runs, 10 hits and striking out eight.

Casey Sears led the offense with three RBIs on three hits, including two doubles. Megan Henderson, Taylor Roe and Keriann Earl each roped two hits. Earl and Henderson scored one run, while Roe crossed home plate twice. Roe and Earl also hit an RBI apiece.

The Warriors (8-3 league) conclude their regular season at home against Fabius-Pompey on Friday.

Union Springs 14, Spencer Van Etten 2

Jillian Thomas earned another win for the Wolves, allowing just three hits and striking out 12.

Jaimi Jones, Monica Sacco and Kelly Pinckney came up with three hits each, including a home run from Pinckney to seal the win.

Union Springs (10-8) hosts Marathon on Wednesday.

Dryden 7, Moravia 6, 10 innings

The Blue Devils held a 4-2 lead after the first inning but couldn't capitalize later in the game with runners in position to score. Moravia had the bases loaded in the fifth with no outs, but Dryden held them to only one run.

The Lions left the Blue Devils runner stranded on second in the top of the 10th and scored in the bottom of the inning with two outs to seal the win.

Leah Hilliard pitched all 10 innings for Moravia, fanning five batters, allowing three walks and scattering 14 hits.

Hilliard roped three of the team's 13 hits, including a triple. Jessica Kehoe also had three hits, including a triple and an RBI. Cayla Wade went 2-for-5, as did Angela Potter, who also smacked two RBIs.

The game concluded the regular season for Moravia (12-8, 9-7 IAC, 5-5 Division III).

Westhill 12, Skaneateles 3

The Lakers struggled against the No. 1 team in the OHSL Liberty League. Alex Hughes was the only multiple hitter for Skaneateles, with two hits.

Hughes also fanned one batter, allowed two walks and scattered 10 hits.

Skanteateles (5-11) hosts Hannibal on Wednesday.

Pulaski 11, Port Byron 1

Alison Short, Nica Dare and Samantha Koczynski all earned hits for the Panthers. Short earned the only RBI for the team, scoring Melissa Deyo, who led the team with three hits against Pulaski (18-3), who has won 19 of its last 20 games.

Britney Helmer got the loss in the pitcher's circle, scattering 17 Blue Devils hits, allowing nine earned runs and striking out five batters.

Port Byron (1-11) is at Onondaga on Thursday.
