User fees: A fair and equitable method of funding services in a proportion to the amount of use. Thank you, Mr. Palesh.
Auburn cannot progress as long as the barflies elect the good old boys into city hall.

I don't blame that pony running around Rome, N.Y. for wanting to be free. In a free country, you should be able to.

We had a local city manager that was doing a great job and council brought in Palesh, and now we have good men within the fire department and they bring in Hammon. Hire our own - they are loyal!

Here we go again, Jerry Morgan is another one of these guys who believes distance lends enchantment ... go to the outside for the new superintendent and he has to be great.

Why should moderate users of the trash pick-up carry the cost of the abusers?

Bringing in thousands of tons of trash to Auburn is absolutely criminal.

Is it really almost $1 per gallon taxes in our fuel costs? The higher the price, the greater the joy to the spending politicos!

" It seems that Auburn has become a city full of disrespectful, rude, lazy, and ignorant criminals who appear to out number hard working ethical people. Criminals and thugs generally wreak havoc nightly and regardless of how many previous convictions are slapped on the wrist by leniant courts to return and do what they always do. These people do this for one simple reason, we allow them to. We need more police officers, more arrests and maximum sentences. We are generally paying for these people anyway, most suck the system dry. We would all be better off having our tax dollars incarcerate them so they aren't out on bail committing even more crimes. " I'm a mom of two teenage sons (read: kids who eat a lot of food, some fresh but after school before I get home it's frozen or canned or boxed). We also have 4 cats and a rabbit, with litter pans cleaned twice a day, creating the largest portion of our trash. But we have yet to ever produce more than one (clear) bag of garbage per week, though we do also have a full bag of recyclables each week. I think you'd have to have a really large family or be rather careless and wasteful to regularly produce more than 3 bags of garbage a week. Oh, and out here in the boonies, where we take our trash to the dump ourselves, we pay $2 a bag starting with the very first bag, and get to do the driving and labor ourselves. I'd love to see a discount rate for people who are responsible enough to produce no more than one bag per week.... "

" to back the $$$ out of your taxes and now charge Trash pick up as a fee. That way all the 2300+ Non-Profits will have to pay for the service they aren't paying for as homeowners do. Well before that happens as a fee, establish a Trash AND RECYCLING PROGRAM that works! The mere change in name from a tax to a fee in order to get $$$ from Non-Profits can certainly be handled in another way. They should pay like homeowners do. No FREE Ride. "

To GARBAGE wrote on May 11, 2007 10:13 AM:

" The simple way for garbage collection is like Ithaca does. Recycle EVERYTHING, EVERY week, just put it out all seperated and they pick it up every week. Also dont waste time calculating who pays more or less for garbage, buy TRASH TAGS. In Ithaca you can buy them almost everywhere, .75 cents a bag is a farce, in Ithaca you pay 13.50 for a sheet of 6 tags. No tag no pick up, that way everyone pays for what they throw away whether you are a family of 100 or just 1. Auburn needs to quit compicating SIMPLE things to get things done!! "

" A household should be allowed 3 bags per family with a set size bag that is clear. If recyclables are in the bag the trashman should not take it. If a family requires more than 3 bags they can go to City Hall and buy stickers to put on their excess bags. Recyclables are removed at no charge. If most families diligently recycle 3 bags should work. The basic fee can be billed with taxes. For single elderly persons over 65 if they only put out 1 bag a week should get a discount on the basic fee which they could apply for. "

Brew wrote on May 11, 2007 1:17 AM:

" The location of a candidate for a job should not be a factor but being the best qualified person should be the only factor. If it is a good paying executive job and that person needs to be on call then they should move to the location of the job. And the city should pay only reasonable moving expenses. No storage fees or closing costs, just the cost of the mover or the rental of a truck and equipment. "

" " I shouldn't have to pick up the tab for the people who pop out half a dozen kids and can't pay for them." If they can't pay for the kids, how will they pay for garbage fees for multiple persons? My guess is the same source they get for supporting the kids. You and I will pay in another way somehow. "

" I own a home outside the Auburn limits, we do not have trash pick up and have always had to pay for our pick up. I have a large family (ironically there are 9 of us) and we do put out more trash then a one/two person household. What the garbage companies do here is everyone is allowed 3, 30 gallon bags, then you pay per bag after that. "

The free market place does not work when you have only a few players who work together to gouge the consumer. Isn't it amazing how all of the oil companies sell their products for about the same price, that is called price fixing, not competition. "

Large families are not abusers wrote on May 10, 2007 2:56 PM:

" I really do not think other people think of large families as abusers, it's just that people need to be responsible for their trash amount no matter what size your family is. Again, more people, more trash, they need to pay more. "

" Current Recycling Program in place was put in place to cover some state mandate. It isn't working. There should be weekly Recycling collection of all materials. Get a the proper trucks to sort at curbside. I would bet most households do not recycle here with the current program. Thus, all is going to the landfill taking up far too much space. Palesh needs to examine RECYCLING before I'll agree to this Trash fee structure. "

" How many households actually recycle? I try my best to recycle as much as possible and usually have one 45 gallon trash bag for my family of 4 per week. My problem with the recycling program in Cayuga Co. is we have to hold onto the trash and only put one item out a week. Why can Onondaga county do this so much better? Those residents can put out everything each week and encourages people to recycle. Who wants to store their garbage each week and then try and remember what is supposed to be put out. If the county would make it easier more people would recycle and then garbage would be reduced! Win, Win... "

" I also believe that this district should ask Mr Al Emmi to be the interim Superintendent. Since Al has left the district how many Superintendents have we had? Too many to count. But one thing that has remained consistent is Al stayed here in our community. Sure he was born and raised here, but so what, many of our local residents have packed it in and moved for greener pastures. Not Mr Emmi, he stayed! For that I commend him. With that said, there is no other person who knows the district like Al, there is no other person that knows the players like Al. He can guide this district while it looks for a new Superintendent. This district would not skip a beat, and it would be led by a man who is well loved and respected. I am encouraging this district to follow through with an outside search and call Mr Emmi and ask him to once again take the helm. Thank You! "

" If I read your post correctly, you are saying poor people have more people in their fammiles?. I guess that's why poor people have more kids, it's because they don't pay for them, the state does. People with more income are responsible and have less kids, because they DO have to pay for them. "
