It can be easy for Mother's Day to feel routine. Buy her flowers, a card and a generous gift, and you've honored thy mother sufficiently this year.

HONOR MOM
HONOR MOM
But Mother's Day should not feel like something to check off your “To Do” list. Although it is a yearly commitment, that Sunday in May always calls for something special.
As a way to start Mother's Day morning, the breakfast in bed would prove popular with most mothers. But don't feel like you have to prepare an elaborate buffet. A simple serving of eggs benedict or cinnamon French toast along with orange juice or coffee can start her special day on a delicious note.
A bouquet of your mother's favorite flowers from Cosentino's or McEvoy Florist, both in Auburn, can provide you with another excellent way to start her day. If you don't know what arrangements or flowers she enjoys most, there's no shame in asking someone else who might know her preference. Chances are you're not the first person to have bought her flowers.
The relaxing tone of a breakfast in bed and a bouquet can be sustained by sending mothers to a nearby spa for the afternoon, such as Elements Salon & Day Spa in Auburn or Mirbeau Inn & Spa in Skaneateles. This gift in particular carries the connotation that you appreciate the hard work requisite of motherhood, and you would like to provide her some relaxation.
Other, more permanent, gift options should be given with an eye to each mother's preferences. Jewelry, candy or clothes, especially, require research to ensure that the present isn't met with that old awkward smile of gratitude mixed with apathy.
If you have a particular talent - like painting or woodworking - that puts you in a position to make a Mother's Day gift so much the better. A gift that only you can give is perhaps that which your mother will cherish most.
A nice dinner that night can serve as the perfect way to conclude Mother's Day. Of course, the best venue you can select is her personal favorite, or at least one that caters to her taste in food. But in the absence of knowing that, restaurants like the Springside Inn in Fleming or the Sherwood Inn in Skaneateles are abundantly safe bets.
If you don't feel creative or can't find the time or resources to prepare an all-star schedule of Mother's Day treats, at least make time to enjoy the day at her side.
Never overestimate the value of spending the day with the special mother in your life. If hectic schedules or geography distance you from her, even something as simple as a walk through the park or a movie adopts a precious significance.
The Mother's Day gift most appropriate for your mother may not even be listed here. Because each mother is different, the best way to celebrate the day and convey your love for her is to listen for what she likes the most those other 364 days of the year.
The key to her happiness on Mother's Day may be NASCAR tickets, a DVD player or free yoga lessons. Regardless of the means, the end all sons and daughters should strive for is a happy mother.
