Three personal bests highlight the links

Three Wolves turned in their lowest rounds of the season, headed up by Chris Shrimpton's 37 to lead the Union Springs boys golf team to a 208-223 victory over Moravia on Monday at Indian Head Golf Course.
Eric Hylwa's 40 and Michael Bean's 42 were also personal bests.

“It's the best weather we've played in,” Wolves coach Todd Salls said.

“That might have helped out. The course might have been playing a little easier today.”

Also contributing for the Wolves were Matt Cuff (41) and Sam Picciano (48).

For Moravia, Anthony Canestaro and Matt Kievit each shot a 42, Joe Alvord carded a 45, Pat Mott had a 46, and Lucas Fedrizzi turned in a 48.

The Wolves (7-3) host Marathon today.

Manlius Pebble Hill 225,

Port Byron 286

Andy Leary's score of 43 was tops for the Panthers and the second-lowest total in the match at Cranebrook Golf Club. Dan O'Hara carded a 56.

The Panthers play at Pulaski Wednesday.

Marathon 218,

Southern Cayuga 237

Lewis Morse shot a 41 to lead the Chiefs.

Southern Cayuga (3-7) hosts Elmira Notre Dame today.

GIRLS GOLF

Jamesville-Dewitt 168,

Bishop Ludden 197,

Union Springs 225

Katie Smith carded a 48 to lead the Wolves at Burnett Park Golf Course. Jamie Pearce shot a 52, Stephanie Quill had a 62, and Lindsey Artman turned in a 63.

The Wolves (0-4) host Cazenovia Wednesday.

West Genesee 188, Auburn 207

Megan Cahill led the Maroons with a 49, and Marisa Ranieri followed close behind with a 51. Mary Benedict and Mindy Fowler each shot a 53, and Cristina Camardo carded a 54. Virginia Porten played well also.

The Maroons (1-3) host Central Square today.

BASEBALL

Cicero-North Syracuse 4,

Auburn 3

Mike Assmann pitched a complete game and fanned 10 Northstars while allowing nine hits, but his counterpart carried a perfect game into the fifth inning against the Maroons, who finished the game with three hits.

Still, when it came down to the seventh inning, the Maroons got the tying run as far as second, but couldn't plate him. Eddie Charles, Eric Conway and Ryan Gleason each had singles.

The Maroons (6-4) host Fowler at Falcon Park today.

Marathon 4, Moravia 3

Dustin LeFave pitched six innings for Moravia, allowing eight hits, two walks and striking out five in the loss. The score was tied at two through four innings, but the Olympians scored one in the fifth and the sixth to bring in the win. Jake Wood and Greg Langtry led Moravia with two hits each. Langtry roped in all three RBIs on a double and a triple.

Moravia (10-5) hosts Trumansburg on Wednesday.

Cato-Meridian 5, Port Byron 1

Kyle Goldthwait earned the win on the mound, and Paul Navarro closed it out. The duo combined to limit the Panthers to just six hits and only allowed two walks.

Navarro also had three hits - including a home run - two RBIs and two runs. Tim Pierce had a pair of hits, and Adam Vogel scored twice.

For Port Byron, Jake Bennett and Tab Carmon had two hits apiece, and D.J. Helmer had a pair of stolen bases.

Cato-Meridian is at Tully on Wednesday, for the first of four games in four days.

Cazenovia 6, Skaneateles 5

Cazenovia scored the go-ahead run after a two-out walk, a pass ball and an error.

Nick Pesarchick pitched 5 2-3 innings and allowed six runs - four earned - on eight hits while striking out two and walking two. Matt Wild pitched in relief with one strikeout.

Pesarchick was 2-for-4 at the plate with a run and an RBI, Devlen Murphy was 2-for-3 with a double and a triple, two runs and an RBI, and Dan Sherboneau was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Skaneateles (5-8) has a rematch with Cazenovia on the road Thursday.

FRESHMAN BASEBALL

Auburn 3, Liverpool 0

Rob Watros got the win for the Maroons, walking three, allowing three hits and fanning nine batters. He also added a single at the plate.

Jared Humphrey went 2-for-3, with a double and two RBIs, while Chris Anderson singled.

Auburn (3-3) travels to Baldwinsville on Friday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Auburn 15, Geneva 5

Kaitlyn Liccion scored four times and added three assists to lead the Maroons, and Rosie Scheibel added four goals.

Flannery Nangle scored three times, Alisha Brooks added a goal and an assist, and Abby Gamba, Delaney Scollan, Brittany Rabuano and Nicole Shattinger each scored a goal.

Brittney Baran made five saves, and Stephanie Cator had one stop.

The Maroons (7-5) are at Liverpool today.

Westhill 17, Jordan-Elbridge 11

Katie Austin netted a hat trick, and Rianne Farrugia and Jessica Young each scored twice for the Eagles. Kim Armani had a goal and an assist, and Emily Dillon, Marge Bailey and Allie Donahue each had a goal. Hanne Bailey added an assist.

Alicia Olmstead made 18 stops.

The Eagles (3-9) play at CBA Thursday.
