AFD puts out small fire on Sunday night
Auburn city firefighters put out a small house fire Sunday evening on Kensington Avenue.
A faulty outdoor electrical outlet apparently set off a flare-up that caused a few hundred dollars in damage at 63 Kensington Ave. Firefighters got the call around 10 p.m.
A couple was home at the time of the blaze, but no one was injured, according to Assistant Chief Ralph Legrett.
Tompkins County lifts no-wake advisory
Tompkins County Sheriff Peter Meskill has removed the 500-foot no-wake advisory on Cayuga Lake effective Monday.
The advisory was initially issued April 25.
The lake level has been reduced substantially. Meskill advises all boaters to be aware of debris and to keep in mind they're responsible for the wake their watercraft creates.
Wells alumna to talk at commencement
Wells alumna Veryl V. Miles, dean and professor of law at Catholic University of America's Columbus School of Law, will give the 2007 commencement address to graduating Wells students at the Aurora Inn, Saturday, May 26.
Miles graduated in 1977 and earned a dual degree in English and theater arts.
The dean has taught law for more than 20 years and held a number of administrative positions.
