AUBURN -- The bulk of a $13.4 million school building renovation will get under way next month, Assistant Superintendent J.D. Pabis told the board of education Tuesday.
All eight buildings in the Auburn Enlarged City School District will see improvements. The high school roof and windows will be replaced and the auditorium and gymnasium will be upgraded as part of the improvement project approved by voters last fall.
Each building is also slated to get weather stripping and light fixtures as part of an energy performance contract with the state.
"The trick of the capital project this summer is also paralleling with the energy contract," Pabis said. "The biggest challenge is paralleling all the subcontractors so we're not all in the same place at the same time."
Work at the high school will begin incrementally June 11 with the roof, gymnasium and mechanical projects to get started at the end of the month.
Pabis said most of the work will be done by the beginning of the 2007-08 school year.
