AUBURN - A fight involving about 18 inmates at Auburn Correctional Facility injured three prisoners Wednesday, the day after a lock down of the prison ended, the Department of Correctional Services reported. “It was unavoidable,” said Auburn corrections officers union President Chris Barrette. “From information we had gathered we knew it was going to happen. We took all the necessary precautions to stop it but it happened anyway.”

WEEDSPORT - On Wednesday evening, the village board unanimously passed a local law allowing the village to enter into an agreement with the town of Brutus to create a joint planning board to advise both municipalities. One of the reasons for the consolidation, said Weedsport Clerk Sandy Kreplin is “because it's getting harder and harder to get people to volunteer for these boards. They don't get paid and sometimes the (work) can be a headache.”
