Two Cents

Judy Ducayne's column on Tuesday, May 1, “New budget is just more new taxes,” is exactly on point. I could not have said it any better myself - thank you Judy!
I wonder if Mr. “jump on the bandwagon” Nozzolio is still going to demand the death penalty for those who shoot police, now that it has come to light that it was other troopers who shot Trooper Brinkerhoff?

If country music crosses to a pop audience, they should no longer be considered country. They have forfeited the right to call themselves country.

The volume of commercials on your cable network is increased so that you will still be able to hear them from the bathroom or when you get that snack in the kitchen.

At closing ceremonies during burials, why can't there be available platforms for persons in wheelchairs, even boards laid down? Money shouldn't be the worry, because they are reusable; the problem I believe is morals and energy.

I feel sorry for the lady who got punched in the face only to find out her assailant received a conditional discharge, not to mention he had two other charges also. Hey, maybe I'll go violate my order of protection, if I'm only going to get a conditional discharge.

Mr. Dempsey, the next time you extol your qualifications for mayor of Auburn, try to be concrete about your plans for the city. For example, what do you plan to do about the scandalous conditions of our roads?

" Why does Mr. Palesh want to pay someone a $66,000 salary to provide a function that the Civil Service Commission already provides for free? Oh, thats right, he wants this person to also do some of his duties, such as negotiate collective bargining agreements. I am not even sure that this is legal! "

" I so love the two cents column! I have to agree with the volume of commercials--is it a brighthouse thing? because before I had brighthouse I didn't have this problem?!!! "

" since I know that I could never be mayor, because I don't have the right name, or the money or the political experience, or know the right people, I will share my idea to bring jobs here to the area and hopefully someone will take heed...There are thousands of people who every year come up with inventions, and they need financial backers to help them produce their products. Some people need help finding a low-cost building to work from, etc.etc. Auburn has lots of empty buildings, and if a guy can get 1.2 million dollars to renovate an old factory into condo's than why cant someone who has an invention that they want to produce get some help too? The people in city hall can find these people, make phone calls to the invention submission corporation, and tell them that our city is willing to help people out with offering them a building, and no taxes for 5 years. If it can bring more jobs to the area, then it's all worth it. You've got to spend money to make money. Come on City Hall, puts your brains to work, quit worrying about yourselves, and your own jobs, what about the rest of us, do we matter, or do you only care about our tax money? "

" Judy Ducayne made a point? Her illogical and poorly structured ramblings have yet to present a fact-based discussion let alone make a coherent point. "

I hear ya Do More.... wrote on May 7, 2007 1:27 PM:

" I hear ya my friend....Auburn needs a shot in the arm in terms of new business. We all know the positives that come out of it. And by new business - we dont mean another Chili's or Quiznos Subs or a Home Depot. Again, nice additions to the area but they dont solve any of Auburn's financial problems. I know first hand Mayor Tim Lattimore has been working his tail off trying to make several connections with various organizations, business leaders, etc. to try & get things going in the right direction for the city. AND DONT LET ANY OHTER FOOLS ON THIS FORUM OR IN AUBURN SAY OTHERWISE; because they have NO idea what they are talking about. He puts in more OT @ this part time job (which is the first problem - a Mayor of a city like Auburn should NOT be a part time gig) that you realize. He's attending confrences, meetings, etc. all the time & even on weekends - alot of the expenses come straight from his pocket too. if Auburn is smart, they will re-elect Tim if he does run again - because there will never be a Mayor who will work as hard as he does, for the pay he gets! Now back to the topic @ hand - where Auburn (and the rest of CNY) can get immediate help is from our State Government. They have done squat for CNY in terms of business development. Their focus has been on Albany NY (and the rest of the Hudson Valley region). The greater Albany area is now becoming the hotbed for nanotechnology and other types of technological advances. Development is happening everywhere, renovations are taking place (condos, office bldgs, etc) and people are starting to infiltrate the area in droves. That, my friend is what CNY needs. I think one type of business Auburn can tap into is customer care / service centers for large companies. These kinds of jobs offer decent pay (40-50K / yr) & Auburn's pitch to these large companies is that the people they employ can afford to buy homes, live in a family oriented community, decent school system, access to Owasco Lake, etc. without feeling the pinch of paying higher salaries for those who live in bigger cities. I realize that some of these jobs are overseas (India, etc) but many of these kinds of jobs require them to be in the USA. Start small by going after the obvious things like this, then go big! (unless if big comes to us, then great!). I love Auburn, and would love to return to the area to live. However, I was forced to move to a big city to get a solid paying job....ya know, to pay back those dam student loans! haha. "
