This year's annual vote asks Auburn Enlarged City School District residents to select seven choices in the voting booth. They include one proposition on the budget; one proposition on purchase of vehicles; one on a capital reserve fund; one on sale of land; and three to elect members of the board.
The proposition on the sale of land would permit the district to sell land it owns to residents on Fleming Street. Interested homeowners there could purchase the property if agreement can be reached between the buyers and district. Recently the district has sold properties along Garrow Street Extension with public approval voted three years ago. School districts cannot give away property, and the district has an obligation to maintain its own grounds.
Sale of the land is one possible resolution for the public's and Fleming Street homeowners' consideration. A capital reserve fund permits districts to pay for debt caused by capital improvement projects. Last fall voters approved renovations not to exceed $13,433,000.
A capital reserve, if approved, would allow the district to set aside funds for future payments tied only to construction or renovations endorsed by the public.
The proposition for purchase of vehicles would allow the district to replace busses, maintenance vehicles, and a mower. If approved, the district would receive state aid for the busses at a projected 70 percent of cost. Polls will be open in Auburn from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 15. Please make it a point to vote. Thank you.
