Lianna May is Southern Cayuga's back-up hurler, but she's pitching like an ace.
May tossed a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts as the Chiefs defeated Moravia 5-0 in a softball game Friday. The Chiefs' No. 1 starter, Julie Hewitt, missed another game due to a hip injury suffered earlier in the week.
Leah Hilliard pitched well for the Blue Devils, striking out 11, but the Chiefs did all their damage in the third and fourth innings. Southern Cayuga scored three runs in the third and two in the fourth behind doubles from Molly Osterhoudt and Shelby Tyrrell.
Southern Cayuga's Traci Hewitt led the offense, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a double.
With the win, the Chiefs remain in first place in Division III of the IAC. They play today in the Cayuga County Tournament at Casey Park.
Moravia (8-6 overall, 5-5 in IAC, 4-4 in Division III) travels to play Marathon Monday.
