Driving a Hummer has been looked on as a status symbol. The way I see it, that Hummer owner is saying, “Look how stupid I am..... I get 6 miles per gallon!”
Thanks for nothing Mr. Palesh. At least we could deduct our property taxes on our income tax forms, but we can't deduct for services we pay for, like trash removal, etc. So tell us what it is we have gained!

My suggestion for the settlement of Fleming Street residents trespassing on school property is to give them no more than one month to remove their personal property from the land; then the school should put up the fence where it belongs and I will pay for the posted signs.

Regarding our latest proposed budget: Thankfully it appears a competent, responsible and reasonable business manager has joined our ranks. Welcome aboard!

It was a nice article in the paper about the Weedsport girls softball team beating Port Byron, but what about the Port Byron varsity baseball team beating Weedsport. It would be nice if BOTH teams got equal credit in The Citizen.

Why all the difficulty with language about term limits for legislators? All you have to do is make it policy that all fringe benefits cease at the time of resignation like anywhere else, which would include insurance coverage.

" I've got absolutely no problem with Mr, BartLOOTa, earning a profit, as long as he does it on HIS OWN DIME. If he could go to a bank and get the money he needs to renovate his building, and acheive the AMERICAN DREAM, the same way everyone else has than more power to him. I have a problem with the way he has finangeled his way into getting all of this money to build condo's that only about 10% of the people in AUburn could afford, and even if they could afford them do they want to live there on Logan St? "

" I am so sick of Auburn's citizens complaining!! Matteo Bartolotta ahs achieved exactly what this country stands for: The American Dream! He came to this country and built a successful business and raised a wonderful family. We complain about all the people crossing our borders and doing nothing with their lives except abuse the welfare system. We should applaud the Bartolottas and others like him who work hard, EARN success and give back to the community. So what if he makes a profit, isn't that what we all try to do? "

Does that make him an environmentalist or an anti-environmentalist??? wrote on May 4, 2007 7:50 AM:

" Frank has so many periods in the middle of sentences you can't make out what he is trying to say -- except that it comes across that he is just the kind of problem driver in Auburn about which we all complain. He thinks speeding and illegal left turns are just fine, and loves his gas-guzzling truck, but is incensed about littering. Ah, the irony -- LOL! Thanks for making our case for us, however inarticulately. "

" I see you are considering a trash service fee. I no longer live in Auburn, although I return six or more times a year to visit family. I do, however, live in a town where we have a trash collection fee, $1.50 per bag every two weeks. My property taxes went up this year. I know your mayor, he was a childhood friend, as were his siblings. I lost half my liver at his uncle's bar. His father was my parents' insurance agent, although his tenure as mayor is argument enough for term limits. The point is that a trash fee will not lower taxes, it will just introduce an ever increasing burden. In a place where the only way to earn a living is to suck off the public teat, taxes will always go up. Salary increases, benefits, pensions have to come from somewhere.n The trash fee is nothing more than a stealth tax. By the way, my taxes on a 130 year old house on a full acre of land are $1500.00 per year. What are yours? "

" what's cool about Auburn is that the people who want to live here, that do not work for the city, have to drive to Syracuse, and towns and cities outside of Auburn, to work. so that the people who work for the city can keep their jobs. "

" If so many people are leaving or have left the city of Auburn, then why did the parking lot behind city hall get bigger, and why is it always full? Are those the vehicles of people who are employed with the city of Auburn? I just don't get it, because years ago, when the population was about 35,000, the parking lot behind city hall was much smaller, but with all the manufacturing jobs gone, and about 8,000 people less, somehow the payroll at city hall has expanded. Common business sense would tell you that if you lose customers, then you must cut expenses somewhere, not add more expenses. "

" I love my F 250 with a V-10. The truck sucks more gas. Than a wino at an free Mad dog wine. All you can drink event. I never buy gas at Lake Side. Its the same price or more than in Auburn. If a $1.50 on a fill up will break the bank. Either quit smoking or give up the Dunken Doughnut stop. I won't hear about "left turns" Who cares? I drive 40 on Grant ave all the time. People who toss out trash out the window of their cars are pigs. If it wasn't considered harrasment etc. I would pick your garbage up, follow you and dump it in your living room. If you don't like the bums running the city and county. Vote the em out or zip your pie hole. Nothing wrong with change. I used to play in the Owasco "Outlet" as a kid. Didn't need a Kayak park to enjoy the outlet. Remember God loves you and freedom isn't free. "

" the Logan St condo's will prove to be a BIG WASTE of MONEY. Mr. BartLOOTa, could not get financing through convential means(a bank construction loan) because in order to get financing a certain percentage of the condo's have to be pre-sold. So that in a nutshell is your proof that these condo's will sit empty for who knows how long. I don't know about you,but I can think of 100 different ways 1.2 million dollars could benefit our community. Perhaps Mr. BartLOOTa should forego his prospects at being a millionaire, and come up with an alternative way to renovate his building, one in which all members of the community can benefit. He will be rewarded in ways better than 2 million dollars can reward a person. "
