A Weedsport man who shot four shotgun blasts into the engine of a truck owned by a man dating his ex-girlfriend stopped paying restitution for the truck in 2006 -- shortly before he made a court argument that restitution should be dropped.
Lenny Ramsey, 35, unsuccessfully brought the motion to drop his $69 a month restitution before former Cayuga County Judge Peter Corning and current Cayuga County Judge Thomas Leone. On Thursday, Leone ordered Ramsey to renew restitution payments -- which are now $1,141 in arrears, according to Chief Assistant District Attorney Jon Budelmann.
Ramsey claimed the Kelley Blue Book value for the truck he damaged is lower that the $4,400 he will end up paying. Ramsey's restitution will now be closer to $100 per month.
After an argument with his ex-girlfriend and the shooting of the truck, Ramsey was in a 12-hour standoff with Cayuga and Tompkins county SWAT teams Jan. 4, 2003 during which he fired more than 20 rounds from his shotgun.
Ramsey was sentenced to six months in the Cayuga County Jail and probation by Corning in 2003. Leone restored Ramsey to probation.
