Herman Bartels Sr. , the Syracuse brewer who jumped his $15,000 bail bond before the sentence was pronounced for attempted arson in the Cayuga County Court, was arrested last night in Niagara Falls, Ontario and is held there pending proceedings for his extradition.

It was only fitting that the first event of Cayuga Community College's inauguration of its newest president was at its newest campus. Dr. Dennis Golladay was greeted with praise at a morning cake cutting ceremony at CCC's Fulton extension. The extension, which began in 1994 with a mere 97 students, now sports an enrollment of 560 and is bursting at the seams for classroom space.

Prosecutors have canceled Friday's preliminary hearing for Bernard “Ben” Sorrentino, indicating he will likely be indicted today for the fatal stabbing of his wife, Angela, at their Metcalf Drive home, on March 16. During his arraignment Monday night, Sorrentino's assigned counsel, David Elkovitch, asked for Friday's hearing. At the arraignment, Surrogate County Court Judge Mark Fandrich scheduled the hearing for Friday, “unless there is action by the grand jury in the interim.”
