It's probably just the wind.
Maybe not completely, but the breeze certainly played a role in Cato-Meridian's 21-14 win over Weedsport in a baseball game Monday.
“The wind was blowing out, and there were a lot of well-hit balls,” Blue Devils coach Steve Riley said. “Once they got out there, there was no running them down. There was no getting to them. Not for either team.”
The result was a combined 35 runs, five triples and nine doubles. Cato-Meridian scored at least one run in every single inning, and Weedsport crossed the plate in all but one.
The game was tied at 12 after the top of the sixth, but the Blue Devils piled on nine runs in the bottom of the inning to put it out of reach.
Pete Marascalchi led the offense for Cato-Meridian, going 3-for-3 with a pair of triples, three runs and two RBIs. Paul Navarro added three hits, three runs, four RBIs and a triple, and Tim Pierce, who picked up the win by pitching 1 1-3 innings of relief, was 3-for-4 with four runs and four RBIs. Donny Rodriquez scored four times.
For the Warriors, Nick Topichak went 4-for-4 with five RBIs and two doubles, Jordan Stott was 2-for-5 with two runs and two doubles, and Bryce Leitten scored twice and had two RBIs.
