The Auburn City Council will meet Thursday for its bimonthly work session for discussions on the city manager's proposed budget, solid waste issues and natural gas providers.
Last Thursday, City Manager Mark Palesh presented his proposed budget. The councilors then had a week to review it. They are scheduled to review and debate the plan during the next work session. The council aims to adopt it by Thursday, June 14.
This week, council will talk about revenues and discuss his proposals regarding general government.
This includes the offices of civil service, the mayor and city council, human rights, city clerk, city manager, corporation counsel, finance, human resources, and planning.
Councilors also will discuss engineering services.
Also, leaders will talk about next year's road improvement program and identify what streets may need work. Last week, the council agreed unanimously to put the 2007-2008 improvement program out to bid. This includes patch work, partial reconstruction, sealing cracks or thin layer asphalt resurfacing.
Auburn's contract for natural gas suppliers also is on Thursday's evening docket.
The city's contract with Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES for natural fuel expires today. The Auburn Municipal Power Agency suggested city leaders explore other providers. The city was paying $11.80 per unit (therms) of natural gas from BOCES.
A request for qualifications went to 10 energy supplier firms and three proposals came back. This is different from the bid process because a request for qualifications means the city isn't obligated to select the firm with the lowest price.
A memo from Michael Long, director of capital projects and grants, stated the municipal power agency could be a provider of energy to the city facilities.
Council will discuss the three proposals received from the request.
