If Tim Lattimore is without sin, he can cast the first stone against David Dempsey.
A father is an occupational hazard for the happy bachelors. A father is the one whom the marriage points to.

Thank you for printing the wisdom of Karl Logan. He is a joy to read and he is ethical, sensible and writes with clarity.

I think it is time to put all the religious testimonials on the religion page, don't you?

Parents are the hardships of a child's life.

I don't understand why a man gets 10 years in prison for his victims not getting injured, but yet a woman can kill her autistic son and serve five years in this wonderful Cayuga County judicial system.

This is for those of you who deliver the special edition of The Citizen on Saturday morning. Throwing them in people's driveways and on the sidewalk is called littering and there is a fine for this.

Like the labor unions helped destroy the auto industry, the teachers union and CSEA unions are destroying homeowners in New York. And the politicians let it continue.

Rev. Jackson and Rev. Sharpton are no religious leaders; religious leaders forgive.

It's a shame that a building that once housed a factory has to be taken over by condos. Don't you get it, City Hall?

Hey, school parents, let's keep Bristol Avenue clean and park on the road and not the grass.

A Democrat ticket of Dacey for mayor and McNabb and Quill for council would be the weakest ticket the Democrats have ever run in Auburn.

On Tuesday, April 25, 2007 a 17-year-old was sentenced to 4 - 6 months in jail for unlawfully dealing with a child. Seems odd that a 17-year -old would receive jail time for such a small offense while being a youthful offender.

The Skaneateles board realistically regarded the heavy burden on the taxpayers in ending the oppressive, expensive medical coverage of employees. The city, county and schools should adopt the same tax savings for its citizens - we've had enough!

Shame on The Citizen for printing the self-righteous bigotry of Marie Spinosa in her anti-gay marriage tirade.

Many children that you see “acting out” or that have a “lack of parenting” has nothing to do with the parents or the way they are being raised; they simply cannot control the way they act. On the surface, individuals who have autism are physically indistinguishable from those without, so please next time you judge a family, really think about it.

Cato has suffered a huge loss with the death of Gerry Van Horn. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

It is not the union workers who have destroyed the automobile industry, for they only wanted a decent wage and benefits, but the CEOs who had to be greedy and make millions of dollars a year, like the CEOs of the oil industry making millions of dollars, while we the people pay for it with the high price of gasoline. Also, the fair trade act is selling this country down the tube.

As a resident of Cayuga County, a lieutenant like Jim Langler will be greatly missed if he is not reinstated.

Politeness is an easy virtue and has great purchasing power.

Let me get this straight: A wacko can legally purchase a gun and kill several people, but a law-abiding citizen can't purchase and light up a smoke? God Bless America!

Education is the development of the memory at the expense of the imagination.

Marriage is a lottery in which men stake their liberty and women their happiness.

Benedict Arnold and the Rosenbergs are no worse people than white flag Reed, Pelosi, Clinton and Schumer, as they are frantic to make sure our troops lose and our country loses to the Muslim terrorists. They are frantic to make sure our troops are defeated and this country is defeated just so Reed, Pelosi, Clinton and Schumer can win the next election.

When are Mr. Pappert and some of the other legislators going to wake up? The hospital spent several million dollars on Wellspring and a new CEO, and now they have filed a Chapter 11?

" You've made some good points, Concerned Vet, but don't get reactionary and sink to making comparisons of the relative worth of college students vs. military personnel. Neither is more valuable -- nor less valuable -- than the other. Don't even go there -- that kind of talk undercuts your credibility, and you have important things to say. Don't stoop like that. (BTW, your description of college kids' foibles dates you (you show the prejudices of your era). College kids today still have group flaws, but times have changed and they aren't the ones you mention any more). Signed, Mom of a college student and a high school student.... "

Body for body, I think that the loss of a soldier is as bad as the loss of a college student. When you compare the coverage of 32 dead bodies in Virginia to the coverage of the over 100 soldiers that lost their lives in Iraq this month, I would say that something is dreadfully wrong. "

They are trained, armed and prepared for combat. When attending school you are not and should not be expected to prepare yourself for combat. No one is saying that it is not a tragedy that our young men and woman in the military are getting killed, it is just that you are using a very bad example. Your talking about apples and oranges. If you honestly can not see a difference between the ARMED FORCES and a COLLEGE STUDENT then I am sorry but, you have lost the ability to sensibly reason and asset a situation. "

Could it be the Mayor and Council do not want us hearing what they have to say during this import budget time. I certainly hope when its time to elect a council and mayor we get rid of the old and begin fresh. However, the rental property (and I'm talking owner-occupied on my street) owner collects rent - for the same size home. The rental property easily puts out 5 times the trash I do, never recycles (and never gets busted for it, either),never mows the lawn, rents to social mis-fits that party all night long, play offensive music and use fowl language. I get so disgusted. Oh, the cops are constantly there too. But dollar for dollar, our taxes are the same. I do not agree with the proposed budget, mostly cause paying for trash would now be another bill to pay, directly out of my wallet, versus the escrowed money and tax deduction I now have. Oh, and I'd be willing to bet my neighbors won't be responsible if the trash proposal becomes a reality, they'll simply let it pile up and let it get strewn all across the neighborhood, and feed the local critter population. Not-for- profit and downtown businesses need to pay for trash disposal. The amount of trash that the businesses downtown put out every week is ALOT. "

" It’s about time somebody said something about renters. It’s not the renters fault though; it’s the cities for not accessing the units fair enough. I would like one person to read the following and really say that this is fair or not fair. I have a house that is 1500 sq. ft and is accessed for 125k. Now a few houses down from me there is a duplex that is 3000 sq ft and also is access at 125k. What’s going on here? Their house is twice as big as mine but paying the same amount of taxes, AND twice the amount of trash. At one time I was against the pay as you go for trash pickup but I am beginning to realize that to be fair a pay as you go might be a good idea, with one exception. The exception is to remove maybe 300 or 400.00 from EACH SINGLE homeowner’s city tax bill initially each year, and then pay as you go trash would be fair. One more item, unfortunately it’s time to start charging not for profit agencies something for taxes, as we the single family units cannot afford to carry them any more. "

It is a trade off that allows them to have unions (so they can get better benefits etc)but makes it illegal for them to strike (to get better benefits, etc). The point of this is to protect the public. How would you like it if there was a murder being committed and when you called the police, no one came because they were on strike. Or your house was on fire....etc. There are some areas, namely the area of math/science/foreign language teachers where there is a huge shortage, if these individuals were to strike it would pretty much screw the school district, you can't just fire them as there is no way to replace them with scabs as it takes years of costly schooling to be certified for those positions. Or if a police department were to strike there would be no way to train people fast enough to take their place. The Taylor Law/Unions are protecting the public from having to deal with these things. To Concerned Vet wrote on Apr 30, 2007 1:16 PM:

" You are right, of course. Part of it is that Iraq is an abstract idea, and the people are not Americans, and very different in so many ways. Part of it is that humans just can't grasp the enormity. Recent studies have shown that human empathy drops off even between one victim and two. The more people are harmed, the less we can relate to it, the less empathy we have. We will feel the strongest for a single victim -- a person, a horse, etc. There is nothing wrong with that sympathy/empathy, but the more victims there are, the less we are able to connect to the individuals who were hurt. So, in a lot of ways, it is quite a feat that people have such strong feeling and concern for 33 dead young people and their families -- and it is no wonder most media have been making a big deal of trying to show them to us as individuals -- little spotlights on the interests and lives of each person lost at VT. You simply could not do that for each life lost in the war. Some local papers make an effort to tell of the lives of American servicemen and women who have died, and that is commendable, but there are also thousands of innocent people from other cultures who have died or been maimed, poor people who have no control over what their government does any more than a poor person down on the Bayou had control over how our government dealt with the aftermath of Katrina. It's sad but true -- we are human and have limitations for comprehending horror. You have to search your own heart and do what you can within the scope available to you, then live your life with as much kindness and compassion to others as you can manage within the parameters of your own life -- and hope that if you ever end up on the other end of the stick, there will be people who will be good to you in return. Good luck, kind soul. "
