Dennis Golladay's first year as president of Cayuga Community College has, by any standards, been a good one. The Spartans' football team posted a 7-3 winning record in its inaugural season. Enrollment is up about 8 percent from last year, and might exceed the target goal of the equivalent of 1,900 full-time students. The fall enrollment of 2,846 students, both part-time and full-time, was at its highest level since the 1992-93 academic year. Construction of a private housing complex for 97 CCC students in downtown Auburn began earlier this month. The apartments at the site of the former Wait Building on Genesee Street should be ready for occupation next summer.

After traveling about 2,400 miles from Arizona Monday, Bernard “Ben” Sorrentino was in Cayuga County court for less than 10 minutes to answer to a second-degree murder charge in the killing of his wife, Angela, in their Metcalf Drive home on March 16. The 37-year-old woman had been stabbed several times in her bedroom while she was asleep.
