Education is that which discloses to the wise and disguises from the foolish their lack of understanding.
With all the subsidies farmers get from the state, county and federal government, their fields should be open two days a week for public hunting. We have been supporting them for 70 years.

The potholes are creating bubbles and cuts in tires. Is city hall listening?

The federal and state governments should send someone into Auburn to see how government road tax money is used. Grant Avenue Road isn't that old but there are pot holes, cracks and dips in the black top, manhole and storm watercovers that need better height adjustment.

Be thankful we have a veterans clinic in Auburn Memorial Hospital and a great staff to take care of us.

Here we go again - possibly going to hire a fire chief from outside the city - we have two people from Auburn Fire Department qualified right now. What is the incentive of becoming a fireman if there is no chance for advancement down the road?

A mother is not a person to lean on, but a person to make leaning unnecessary. Mother is the name for God in the lips and hearts of little children.

" Ooops, I almost forgot to answer the question of advancement in the AFD. If you're that unhappy with the "gimme" 2-3% increase every year, perhaps you should quit the department and go to work for one of the thousands of industries around Auburn. I'd imagine there isn't much competition for that .15 cent an hour raise annually. "

" Passing a civil service exam doesn't make someone a good leader. Mr. Palesh should choose a candidate who bests represents the goals, vision and future of the department. Having full-time paid firefighters chase around a private, professional EMS service to justify the department's excessive staffing levels is truly wrong and costly to the taxpayers. Simply stated, the AFD doesn't want an "outsider" to come in and upset their little apple cart. If anyone remembers back to the eighties when the population of Auburn was much higher, a consulting firm hired by the City for some major money found that the department was overstaffed then. City officials turned a blind eye and haven't looked back since. It's high time that department is restructured. "

" Actually, Henry, Auburn IS responsible for the portions of Grant Ave. within city limits. "

" I drove down E. Genesee Street today coming back from Skaneatlas, and how was that fun. It brought back memories of Roseland Park, riding on that old wooden rollercoaster. That was good times. I'd pay to do that everyday. Whoooo Hoooo... "

" ...and not only on Grant ave., but the Applebee's/Arbys/etc plaza parking lot! I drove through there yesterday and could NOT BELIEVE the condition of this lot! It looks like it's been deserted for years! "

" Auburn is not responsible for Grant Ave. it's a state route. The problem is there isn't enough money to go around, therefore, bad roads are left untouched. They literally are based on a condition scale year to year to determine what road is more important to another. "
