April 27 is deadline for dairy farmers
Dairy farmers have until Friday, April 27, to apply for assistance through New York's Dairy Investment Act.
Applications are mailed to producers statewide, but anyone who hasn't received one should contact their local county Farm Service Agency office or the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets at (800) 554-4501. Cayuga County's Farm Service Agency can be reached at 253-8471.
Applications are also available at www.senatornozzolio.com, state Sen. Michael Nozzolio's Web site. Producers must complete, sign and mail their application by the April 27 deadline. Payments are expected to be issued May 9.
The act is a $30 million program included in the 2007-2008 state budget that will provide direct and immediate relief to the state's dairy farmers.
