Two Cents

The overall inmate to guard ratio is 3 to 1 throughout the state, but I know that working at Auburn Correctional at night, one supervisor and three officers are watching 600 inmates. Nothing against the Auburn police - yea, they can use more people - but that ratio is not true everywhere you go.
Did you know that to reserve or rent a pavilion at Emerson Park, that it's $400 - you get $200 back from security deposit, plus a parking fee. I am very disappointed with the kind of taxes I pay in Cayuga County that I would have to pay that kind of a fee.

My son is 18, has a cell phone and is very responsible when using it, and if there were ever an emergency, yes I would immediately be there for him. Your problem probably stems from the fact that your child wants a cell phone, you're too cheap to get them one and now you want to blame the rest of the population for our use of cell phones with your ramblings of nonsense.

On Wednesday, the Two Cents that talks about the NRA and that they want you to own any gun, anytime, anywhere, is a bald-faced lie. I have been a member of the NRA for at least the last 20 years and as far as I'm concerned if these people want to tell lies, they should at least give their names.

Judy, bullseye on Stearn's motives. But aren't you just a little curious to see if Stearns can communicate at all once Plume is gone?

Do you get the feeling that those in the state capital and the national capital that are your so-called representatives are out for themselves and their pet programs? The only time they are interested in us is when we vote, and then we are their sweethearts and we are the intelligent public who cannot go wrong, provided we vote for them.

When they have the council meetings on the television, you can't even hear what they're saying. I think they better look into that - something must be wrong.

I believe the school taxes should not be raised due to the extra income from the reassessment and the state giving record aid to the schools.

Kudos to Mayor Tim Lattimore for having the good sense and foresight to promptly form a bi-partisan committee task force to take action to prevent a Virginia Tech situation from happening in our community.

Ultra-liberal Don Imus makes racial quotes like that every day on his show, but the admitted 95 percent liberal media made a big thing out of this one because it wanted to cover up the coming story that would have embarrassed and exposed the liberal media as being enablers of the Democrat Party politics of victimology and race baiters like Jackson and Sharpton.

Shame on you for printing the sick ramblings of Karl Logan. It is this kind of disgusting hate which eventually leads to tragedies such as we have seen happen recently at Virginia Tech.

Real education must ultimately be limited to people who insist on knowing - the rest is mere sheep herding.

Slow down people on highways and especially Grant Avenue. People are walking and children playing on side streets.

In yet another fine example of liberal PC “do as I say not as I do” bias, The Citizen feels the need to rebuke the Senecas for adopting Democrat talking points. Anti-American, anti-capitalist leftists get a free pass in your paper for painting our sitting wartime president as Hitler and Satan as well as federal Democrat senators and representatives referring to our troops as Nazi storm troopers and baby killers.

I'd like to know when some of these potholes here in Auburn are going to get repaired. They are really ruining our cars, I think it's time the city gets their act together and does something about these potholes.

Come on Fingerlakes Mall, let's get some more stores out at the mall. We've got a lot of empty spaces, what's going on?

I would like the state of New York to tell The Citizen how many wind turbines could have been installed for $7 million as opposed to six water ones.

I believe the school taxes should not be raised due to the extra income from the reassessment and the state giving record aid to the schools.

The media is incorrectly labeling this Virginia Tech thing as being the largest mass murder in U.S. history. What about all those women and children - 84 people - murdered at Waco?

Employer wrote on Apr 24, 2007 10:39 AM:

" "Old farts" can't afford to retire. I'm in my early 40s, not even halfway through my life if the longevity of my ancestors is any indicator, and have only had a decent paying job for 3 years. Many people my age don't even have that much. There won't be any social security for us when we are old -- so we just have to plan to keep right on working into our 70s or older. I know I will have to, and good thing I love my work. Keep this in mind too -- many employers would rather hire older people because they have a stronger work ethic, and don't act like the world owes them a job. I see the attitude at times even in my own kids, despite the example I myself have set them in addition to what I have taught them -- their peers' attitudes are stronger. It may take learning the hard way that you have to work to earn a job, and then keep on working at that job to continue to deserve it, in order to survive, and you'll have to compete for those jobs with people who have more experience, to teach a good many young people that the world does not owe them a job -- to clear them of the almost universal attitude problem I see in so many young people. There are good ones out there, but there are a lot of young people with attitudes no employer wants -- like the poster telling "old farts" to retire. Lack of respect for your experienced elders is just one part of the attitude problem. As an employer myself, I would not want to hire you, even if you had all the qualifications. I want to hire people who have skills AND a good attitude towards work and co-workers. "

" I got a big kick out of the nonsensical comment posted against me by the same person who has been my critic on this forum! Ho ho ho, he he he, ha ha ha! Trying to conflate a humorous abd TRUE anecdote with the kind of hatred at Virginia Tech shows only 1. your lack of intelligence 2 your inability to reason cogently, and 3. your pettiness and jealousy of someone who has the opportunity to travel regularly-and who is exposed to the REAL world and it's opinions--not the saccharine make-believe world which you dwell in. Call me anytime, I'm in the phone book, we'll talk; maybe you'll learn something...Ciao! "

"

Hey YOU, "Annoyed" wrote on Apr 23, 2007 6:40 PM:

" You did not just have your middle finger up for Frank M. You gave that finger to every person on that street. Every child, every old lady, every mother, father, young person, middle-aged person. Why would you want to speed down the street that someone *lives* on? Have you no respect for the peace of mind and quality of life of others? Can you not consider the safety issues of your asinine driving? You have no right to endanger the lives of others. You have no right to go over the speed limit. You are breaking the law. You have a license to drive. Not a right. Look at that finger you raised. You look like a fool. "

" I've seen too many students abuse the rules when it comes to cell phone usage, and so I definitely agree with the stricter rules. But I don't think totally banning them is a good idea. There are no more pay phones at school, and if you have to stay very late, you're out of luck because the main office and all the classrooms are closed. "

" They had their chance to walk out, but the gov't also had a chance to capture Koresh outside his compound, but instead chose to use a show of force for the cameras. That psycho needed to be held accountable for his crimes, but they didn't have to do it that way. I for one believe the gov't (mainly Janet Reno) is just as responsible for all those deaths as Koresh is. That being said, comparing Waco to VT is apples and oranges... not quite the same, but I see the point. "

" The purpose of the extra state money for education was too improve performance in schools. Schools are supposed to show the state how they've used this money for that purpose. If the money is only used to lower taxes, how are the school's supposed to improve performane. The big crime with this money is that a number of very wealthy suburban district (like some of those east of Rochester) got 15%-18% increases while many poor rural districts in the area got just 5%. "
