Cato budget would have small increase

Cato village trustees recently adopted a 2007-08 budget with a 2.7 percent tax levy increase.

The budget raises spending $681, or less than a percent, from $203,485 this year to $204,166 in 2007-08. The levy, or amount to be raised by taxes, will increase about $1,800, from $67,690 this year to $69,500.

The tax rate will increase by two cents, from $4.27 per $1,000 of assessed value to $4.29 per $1,000. A home assessed at $50,000 would have a tax bill of $214.50 for 2007-08, about $1 more than this year.
