Throopsville Community Church's Spring Fling this Saturday, at the Throopsville Firehouse, embodies more than just the hope that warmer weather is on its way, and everyone's invited, said Mary Lou Forgham, wife of the Rev. John Forgham.
The day consists of among other things, games for children to play, craft vendors, silent auction, chicken dinner, even the choir is expected to be involved and a dance to draw the day to a close.
While admission to the Spring Fling is free, the dinner will likely cost no more than $6, Mary Lou said. The money raised from the silent auction, vendors, games and other attractions will all benefit the Throopsville food pantry and the student class trip to either New York City or Washington, D.C. - depending on how much money they raise.
The community has showed its support for the event that has taken place in years past, Mary Lou said. All the craft vendors are local, as well as the donations for the silent auction.
“The kids have got people to donate gas certificates, dinners, clocks, other things,” she said. “You can buy something like 10 tickets and put them in for different items.”
The day is geared toward family fun, but Mary Lou said the dance is more appropriate for older teenagers and adults. Although the firehall has become known for Friday night country line dancing, Mary Lou ensured the dance will feature all types of music.
“Something for everyone,” she said.
