The downtown jeweler opens his first-ever colored diamond show. “In the middle of a rotten spring, here's something to put some sparkle in someone's life,” said store owner Syd Marsden. He created the event to showcase gems most people don't know about. “A lot of the jewelers out there don't even know about them,” he said. County animal control officials sent a sampling of the deceased birds to the state Health Department's Wildlife Lab in Albany. With the outbreak of the West Nile Disease that killed mostly pigeons in recent summers, the state wants to conduct tests whenever a number of birds are found dead from mysterious causes, said Cayuga County Spokesman John Rowe.
