It started as a small production conjured up by a few congregants. It now flourishes as a staple production by the Lake Country Christian Church of Waterloo, produced every two years at the Smith Opera House.
“Easter Millennium 2007” commemorates the church's fourth year in staging a live re-enactment of the Easter story. “It displays the Passion about the crucifix and the Resurrection of Christ,” said Marge Kennedy, the Rev. Don Kennedy's wife.
Marge explained how the play originally was started by a small group at the Lake Country Christian Church and by the suggestion of the audio/visual technician became a production at the Smith Opera House.
“He said, ‘Why don't you put this on so everyone can see?' It was his dream and he does a wonderful job putting everything up on screens,” she explained. “It's all done with a computer.”
Marge added that the Crucifixion scene is done behind a screen to ensure it is suitable for all ages.
“We wanted the town to be part of it. For the community,” she said. “It's not just for one church, but for every church that believes in Christ.”
The Kennedys are hoping for a good turnout this year and with the timing being relevant to Easter, they believe maybe the play can shed some light on the Christian holiday.
“Last time people said it made them feel numb, it's so real because it brings the scripture to life,” Marge said.
