CAYUGA -- A little rain and cold weather couldn't dampen the Easter spirit Sunday afternoon at Cayuga Elementary School.
Nearly 100 young children gathered for the fifth annual Easter Egg Hunt.
The hunt, sponsored by the Cayuga Fire Department Ladies' Division, was first thought of as a way to reinvigorate an old fashioned tradition.
"We wanted to do something like this for the kids," said Helen Day, president of the fire department's ladies division. "There hadn't been an Easter egg hunt in the village for a lot of years and when we were thinking of things we could do, we thought this would be a great idea."
From there the celebration has grown steadily.
"Last year, we had at least 100 kids," Day said. "It has just kept growing every year and we get more and more kids out for this. We get new families and we get ones that have been here with us every year, but it just keeps growing."
