Each Wednesday, The Citizen features someone in the food services industry from the Finger Lakes community in The Banks:
This week, we spotlight Marie Desimore of Hunter's Dinerant.
Q. What is the one food you cannot live without? Why?
A. Bacon, I just like it. My husband said last night, “You can't live without bacon, can you?”
Q. Fill in the blank. People would be surprised to know that even though I work in the food industry, when I am at home in the kitchen, I __________.
A. If I'm making something and tasting it at home, I keep getting clean spoons. Here I can't taste anything.
Q. What do you like most about living and working in the Finger Lakes region?
A. I love the change of seasons, and the people are nice.
Q. If you were given $1 million to open your own restaurant or bar, describe the bar or restaurant and what type of food you would serve.
A. I'd buy this one and buy the building next doorso I could build a parking lot. That way we wouldn't get tickets.
Q. Where would it be located? Why?
A. I'd have it right here, with a few minor repairs.
Q. On the day of your restaurant/bar's grand opening, if you could select anyone in the world to be your first three guests, who would they be?
A. My mother-in-law, my father and my grandmother.
Q. Describe your most embarrassing moment while working on the job.
A. One time I dropped a glass of soda, it hit a table and made a baby cry. But in 46 years of doing this, I guess that's not bad.
Q. What is your favorite junk food?
A. Pretzels.
Q. What have you learned are the top three ways to run a successful food business?
A. Consistency, pleasantness and good quality products, which we have here.
Q. If you weren't working in the food business what would you like to be doing?
A. Public speaking, a humorous kind. I'd help the public deal with everyday life, such as what to do and what not to do.
Q. Ughh. What's the one food which you absolutely can't stomach? Why?
A. Brussels sprouts. I hate them. They smell bad, they taste bad and they give you gas.
