Humor that's just right.
Tonight, Cayuga Community College and Auburn Public Theatre will offer a helping of the kind of humor that is so hysterical that joke after joke crescendos into gut-busting laughing until you cry.
It will be “tear-dripping comedy,” promises Norman Lee, CCC's director of student activities.
Comedian Spanky first went on stage in 1985 and has performed at more than 500 colleges.
The unconventional comic published “Men Are Sluts” in 1994, and he has a companion compact disc.
He's been in a PBS documentary about a comic's life on and off stage. He made it to the grand finals of the “Star Search” show, and he's been a regular on Fox Television Network shows over the years.
Critics have called his humor entertaining without offending, slightly wild and crazy and as hot as rubber boots in July.
Louis Ramey, the weekly host of the Friday night Nick @ Nite Road Crew, will join Spanky on stage. He's been on Comedy Central for his own special and three others. You might have seen him on “The View,” HBO or VH1.
He's a comedian who says he likes to make his audience think by connecting to them with his sharp wit.
These caliber of comedians would cost $20 or $25 to see in a major metro comedy club, but only $6 is being charged for public admission - basically so CCC's Student Activities Board can recoup its event planning costs, Lee said.
Ramey will also take the stage 9 p.m. Saturday at Wells College. The Wells event is open and free to the general public. Visitor parking is marked.
“It's very edgy,” said Heather Mead, Wells' interim programming coordinator. “It's very good for the college scene. He's kind of oddball. He'll hit anywhere.”
Ramey is recognizable because of his wide exposure; people will have seen him somewhere, she said.
It's PG-13 comedy so both shows are 18-and-over events, Lee and Mead said.
The general community is always welcome at CCC events, but this comedy jam is only the second time CCC has taken an event it is sponsoring off campus.
APT is also a great location because of its close proximity to Lattimore Hall on Genesee Street, where many CCC students live, Lee said.
“This time, we thought to bring this to the community,” Lee said.
