I was very proud when I read of Dr. Jamie Ciaccio's recognition by the American Red Cross as a “real hero.” He is, indeed, a caring, competent and dedicated physician, and he provides the community with the highest level of care.

That he chooses to only accept his award in the name of the Emergency Care Unit speaks to both the top quality care offered to patients every hour of every day by all of the physicians and staff, but also to his tremendous leadership of his department.

I have long enjoyed a close professional relationship with Dr. Ciaccio as well as most of the Emergency Care Unit physicians and staff. They are all heroes in my book.
