I wonder if the city realizes how much water they use when they flush the streets with a sweeper all summer long?
Why does the media continually find ways to campaign for Mrs. Clinton?

Didn't Coke come in a few years ago and beg Auburn to let them put in a turf field and sponsor Auburn High? Is there a good reason we didn't let them do it then?

Would it be possible for The Citizen to include the correct TV channel numbers in your daily guide? Most have recently changed and it would make life easier especially for regular users.

Auburn students need better education, not artificial vegetation!

Question: What's the difference between highway robbery and high gas prices? Answer: Nothing! Just government approved!

Why don't we build more video game arcades and game salons instead of a casino? Those'll give people jobs and others something to do in this city without the negative effects of a casino.

To the unknown gentleman who turned in my black leather glove to the clerk at the Pit Stop on Friday: Thank you very much!

Getting gas wrote on Mar 23, 2007 3:26 PM:

" I actually used to prefer to use cash to buy gas -- but then they started making you pre-pay. I don't have time to go into the clerk, give him or her some money, explain that I don't know how much it's going to cost to fill up the car, go back out, fill the gas, note the amount, go back into the clerk and get change, checking that they got it right. If they'd let people pay after like they used to, it'd be fine. So, now I use my debit card and try to remember to get a receipt so I don't forget to note it in my checkbook -- drive-offs have made life a pain either way. But seriously, the high gas prices have more to do with our President, his pointless and wasteful war, and his protection of all his buddies in the oil and gas business who are raking in huge profits at all our expense. "

" pretty soon we'll be driving in hover vehicles anyway, so we wont have to worry about streets. "

gas stations wrote on Mar 23, 2007 8:59 AM:

" part of the reason why gas prices have gone up is because everytime you use your debit card, some gas station franchises are charged 2-5 cents per transaction on gas purchases from the company. If you pay with cash, then you should ask the gas station for a discount on your gas purchase. "

Water on the streets wrote on Mar 23, 2007 8:25 AM:

" The whole street sweeper discussion is just silly -- you get more water in a single rainfall than the street cleaner use all year. You can't prevent water getting into the roads because it falls from the sky. Expansion and contraction of water/snow/ice is just part of nature and has to be taken into account by the people who build and maintain roads. I don't know enough about it, but I daresay some kinds of road types are more suited for adjusting to the climate than others. I suspect the cheaper the less durable, for example. "

Casinos and crime wrote on Mar 23, 2007 8:19 AM:

" Do a little academic research (rather than your own anecdotal stories) and you will see how casinos bring crime to an area. You have organized crime, for one, and you have low-life criminals and con-men who flock to places where there is an abundance of potential victims for theft carrying lots of money around with them, you also have prostitution and drugs which go along with the gambling. Casinos and crime go together like peanut butter and jelly. "

" Do you want filthy streets? Return to the Dark Ages where the streets were the sewers? Water is cheap and a renewable resource. Actually I'm probably wasting my time answering an idiotic comment such as stop cleaning the streets. "

Those street sweepers wrote on Mar 23, 2007 12:20 AM:

" Are much needed. The dirt, dust, grime and garbage they clear off the streets weekly is very necessary. The water used by these vehicles can easily be monitored. Without them the streets would be a mess. Thank god for those sweepers. "

hey pay them to live wrote on Mar 22, 2007 10:17 PM:

" that would work if you could legally keep them from moving back. You'd have to move them far enough away. Like to New Orleans or Mississippi or somewhere else that has seen a recent population exodus and needs people to do menial labor jobs. "

Watching Fools wrote on Mar 22, 2007 10:04 PM:

" Gas prices are going to stay high as long as idiots keep going to the mobil stations that charging are higher prices than all the other gas stations. Boycott the highest priced station and they will be forced to lower their price. "

pay them to leave wrote on Mar 22, 2007 8:40 PM:

" their are not enough jobs in this city so that everyone who is of legal working age can have one. Also, even if some people who are on welfare were able to get a job that pays minimum wage, if they have children then they might as well be working to pay for childcare-so it defeats the purpose-quit bashing the people who are on it and bash the system-bash your local council people who sit around and bob their heads and just agree to keep things the same. If you people are so adament about reducing the welfare roles-then how about suggesting to the powers- that- be that they offer welfare receipents moving expenses so they can leave this wretched city and go to a city where they can earn a decent living. "

the real issue--- wrote on Mar 22, 2007 7:04 PM:

" You people are worried about a casino, when at any given time-inmates housed at the Prison could break free and terroize the streets of Auburn? And don't think that it couldn't happen! Have you have considered that, may, be why outsiders are leary about building new businesses in Auburn. If you have grown up all your life in Auburn, than you may not have that fear, but try to think of yourself as someone else who did not grow up in Auburn. "

what crime? wrote on Mar 22, 2007 6:55 PM:

" I only see bus loads of senior citizens and middle aged couples headed to turning stone. What crime? Addiction, yes. Traffic, yes. But crime? NO. "

Go away wrote on Mar 22, 2007 3:36 PM:

" Casinos also bring crime, requiring more police, harming local citizens, lessening the quality of life with fear and such, and the way this deal is set up, it would also take business away from other local businesses -- restaurants and such -- because people at the casino would stay at the casino to eat, get gas, etc. And a gambling addiction is nothing to slough off like it's no big deal. Many other addictions are limited -- there are restrictions on drinking age, smoking age, etc. Some other addictions are not yet regulated, but the answer is not a step backward and say if we can't regulate them all we shouldn't regulate any of them. Rubbish -- bad enough the major "business" in Auburn is a prison -- a casino would just ice the cake to make the place a garbage hole. "

What? wrote on Mar 22, 2007 3:18 PM:

" DD, you must one of the ignorant to assume that it's only old people who oppose a casino (and you know what they say about assuming). I happen to be a teenager. It isn't so much gambling that's a problem, it's the people they attract - criminals and low lifes. Not only that, casinoes and other similar business have a tendency to drive away the people and business this city needs to be better. Why do we need someone else's casino to bring up Auburn? Why don't we enhance Auburn ourselves and celebrate many of our own attractions, such as the Tubman and Seward houses, the Cayuga museum, and the Case Lab? "

" Has anyone figured out why Spitzer wants to close down the hospitals? He needs to spend more time fixing this issue than the issue of the fat police. Come on. He has to address some real serious issues of how the closing of hospitals is going to affect small communities more than how fat my kid is. Hey Spitzer, you want fries with that? "

" to "the truth" I hope when you are laid up your boss replaces you the next day instead of letting you have short-term disability! the truth is you are probably home sitting on your butt collecting welfare with my tax dollars! I would rather my tax money go to STEVE-someone deserving! "

" Rather than posting this daily on your opinion of representation in district 15 write letters to your officials daily. This is getting old. Your postings daily on here are not going to change anything. A more constructive effort is contacting your local officials. They are the ones that can make necessary changes. "

DD wrote on Mar 22, 2007 1:49 PM:

" What negative effects would a casino have on Auburn? Whomever wrote that a casino would have a negative effect is ignorant. The only argument anyone can come up with is that gambling is addictive. So is: TV, smoking, drinking, eating, shopping, illegal drugs, driving too fast, etc........ I don't see anyone writing letters about those issues, but as soon as gambling comes up, you old wrinkly twits have a "parade" to protest it. Wake up! There is nothing to our tax base around here. No more lifetime industry jobs, no more good paying jobs. Business' are leaving the area. What the hell do we have to lose? "
