Roads, turf and elections

There are a few subjects that have not gained the attention they deserve because they are deemed low priority compared to the other political maneuvering going on throughout our city:
€ We haven't had the chance to discuss the condition our roads are in. You could have your eyes closed and still know when you hit Auburn City limits because you are sucked into ditch after ditch. It doesn't matter what direction you enter our fair city from, it's dangerous. Make sure your seatbelt is on; otherwise you will be thrown from your seat into a crater.

We usually blame our pothole situation on our hard winters and all the road salt we had to use but how could that be? If you recall our roads were a mess before we even had any wintery weather conditions. So it couldn't be the slippery conditions that forced us to pour on the salt. Either we're not paying contractors to do the work they are supposed to do so our streets are properly maintained, or our construction workers aren't giving us our money's worth when they do their repairs.

Look, our streets are embarrassingly in shambles and have been for a while. Our city streets and their poor conditions are the talk of the area. Just let the roads deteriorate and maybe we could make a buck as a national disaster area.

€ The next topic is David Dempsey and his announcement to possibly run for mayor, but definitely for re-election for councilman. What is there to say other than “You've got to be kidding me.” How can this man even consider running for any office when all he has done is cause division and chaos? His childish antics of fighting and using others' valuable time to referee have only added to our already exhausting problems at city hall.

Dempsey needs to hang his hat up and call it quits. This city needs fresh blood and new ideas like we got in the last election.

€ Last and not least, let's talk about the Auburn school board's favorite topic: turf.

Turf will continue to be a reoccurring theme until we the taxpayers give up. The school board will not stop proposing turf until they get it. They will just resubmit new proposals so we all have to go vote again and again until they get their $1 million turf.

They are hoping to wear us down because they don't like to be told no. Well, we need to keep telling them until they get the message. When the district shows us our children are academically high achievers and our economy has had a major boost, then we should consider turf.

And only to be used as pothole fill for our city roads.
