Teacher of year nominations sought
The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History is seeking nominations for the New York History Teacher of the Year award.

The honor is designed to promote and celebrate the teaching of American history in classrooms nationwide.

It recognizes one exceptional teacher of American history from each state and U.S. territory.

This year, only kindergarten through sixth-grade teachers are eligible for nomination.

Winning candidates will: have taught American history at least three years; demonstrated a deep commitment to a career in teaching that subject; presented evidence of creativity and imagination in the classroom and demonstrated their close attention to documents, artifacts, historic sites and other primary materials of history.

The state winner will receive a $1,000 honorarium and join the running for the National History Teacher of the Year award, to be selected this fall.

His or her school library will receive a core archive of history books and materials.

The deadline for nominations is May 1.

" Too bad it is only for K-6th grade teachers, because I's nominate my Professor Ron Grube at Cayuga Community College. He is an excellent teacher (as everyone I have had) and truly shows it in his work. I think ALL teachers are the best, regardless of what grade or what subject they teach. "
