New and improved Chloe ready to go to permanent home

Monday, March 19, 2007 12:15 PM EDT

Each Sunday, The Citizen features a pet which is available for adoption.
This week, we spotlight Chloe from the Finger Lakes SPCA.

Q. What is your quirkiest habit? Where did you pick it up?

A. Since I have been back here in the shelter, I have developed the habit of staring at the staff when I want something - like more water or a treat. I don't move or make any noise. I just stare at them - it works every time.

Q.If no one was looking and you could eat anything you wanted, what would you pick?

A. Someone brought a peanut-butter and jelly sandwich for lunch the other day - and I heard that one of the dogs got to share it. Next time the sharing is going on I would like to try one of those sandwiches.

Q. What famous person, living or dead, do you resemble physically? What about personality wise?

A. The staff has described me as regal - and if you look really hard, you will see that I bear a slight resemblance to Queen Victoria (at an early age that is). Personality-wise - absolutely The Queen!

Q. If you could pick a famous “movie star” animal to meet, who would you pick and why?

A. I'm not particularly impressed by movie stars - animal or otherwise.

Q. Are you more comfortable around adults or children:

A. I think adults - but older children who have learned how to behave properly with cats (and dogs too) would be OK. Smaller children might pose a problem.

Q. Do you get along with other animals?

A. When I came back to the shelter, I shared the common area with that kitty Stella - we sort of ignored each other. But, yes, I can get along with other animals after slow and careful introductions.

Q. How often do you like to be groomed?

A. I love to be groomed - the more the better. It makes me feel really good.

Q. If there's one thing you don't enjoy it's _______.

A. Having to say goodbye to my foster mom and dad. They were very nice. But Theo is with them now, and I know he's having a good time.

Q. Fill in the blank. My ideal owners would _______.

A. Treat me like the royalty I am.

Chloe

Age: Young adult

Breed: Domestic short-hair

Chloe came to the shelter some time ago as a stray. She hung out with all the other felines but then had the great opportunity to go into foster care. While there she learned quite a lot from her wonderful foster mom and dad - and their resident kitties. She has recently returned and is now referred to as “the new and improved Chloe.”

She is fairly shy - and doesn't like to be held much - but prefers to sit regally and be admired. On the other hand, and as is the case with most felines, when she feels like being affectionate - watch out.

Chloe is a young adult -about 2 or 3. She has been tested for FIV/Leukemia and is negative, she is up to date on her vaccinations and is spayed. When she first arrived, she had a general de-worming and was treated for fleas. She is a neat girl and faithful about using her litter box.

Now that she has done the foster-care, she would really like to move on to a more permanent situation, but she said she would settle for another foster - if her new fosters are as nice as the last ones.

The adoption donation for Chloe is $75, and she's available to be admired from noon to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Friday and from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For more information, contact the shelter at 253-5841.
