Toastmaster's win table topics
The area 18 Toastmaster's Table Topics and International Speech Competition was held recently at The Lodge at Welch Allyn Inc. in Skaneateles Falls. Diana Wolgemut representing Verbal Spartans Toastmasters came in first place, Grace MacDowell from the Jabberwocky Club came in second in the Table Topics Contest.
In the International Speech Contest Sam Giangreco came in first place, representing the Jabberwocky Toastmasters. First place contestants will compete at the Eastern Division Contest at Cxtec in Syracuse April 4.

Benefit to help young kidney patient
A pasta dinner will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 24, for 10-year-old Aaron Weed, who is on dialysis awaiting a kidney transplant.
The fundraiser will be held at the Ukrainian National Club, 125 Washington St., Auburn. A $10 donation includes dinner, auction, raffles, door prizes, 50/50 drawing, music and children's events

John, Reve Walsh to receive award
Cayuga Counseling Services' annual fundraiser, “More Than Java with the Gents” dinner and silent auction, will be held Wednesday, March 28, at the Springside Inn, West Lake Road, Auburn. Social hour is from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by a family style dinner.
The guest speaker is Dan Cummings, News Channel 9, WSYR. This year, John and Reve Walsh will be honored with the SAVAR Gold Award for their dedication to the prevention of violence against people. The award will be accepted by video.
The fundraiser benefits the SAVAR (Sexual Assault Victims Advocate Resources) program. SAVAR provides training, education, advocacy, accompaniments, a 24-hour hotline and therapy for primary and secondary victims of sexual assault.
Tickets are $25 per person, $45 per couple and $180 for a table of eight. Seating is limited. To make a reservation, call 253-9795.
Catholic Charities lists award winners
The Cayuga County Advisory Council of Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes has announced the recipients of the sixth annual Works of Love Award. The award will be given to the honorees during a dinner from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at the Springside Inn, West Lake Road, Auburn.
Honored this year will be Roman Catholic parishioners for its support of the Catholic Charities, of the Finger Lakes Cayuga County Offices for the 25 years the organization has been in existence.
This year's keynote speaker will be Tony Barbaro, an Auburn native and graduate of the Auburn school system. He is executive director of Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes and associate diocesan director of Catholic Charities of the diocese of Rochester.
The dinner is open to the public, but advanced registration is required. Tickets are $35 per person. Call Maureen Ogden at Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes at 253-2222 ext. 320 by April 3.
