To all motor vehicle drivers: turn your headlights on when it is snowing and blowing. Maybe you can see us, but we can't see you.
The Citizen did a good and great job covering Black History Month, and the letters from the students were very interesting and well written. I'm looking forward to next February.

Hurray, when the police get creative in collecting DNA, it's about time! Get these murderers, rapists and perverts off the street as fast as possible.

I am so tired of all you self-righteous non-smokers. We smokers are not criminals, we are not second class citizens, and we are not rude and stupid!

We have 12 months in the year, with one particularly chosen by our politicians as the Black History Month. I wonder if a group of Caucasian students attending A.H.S. had a particular sit-in to voice their demands for a special history month for their own individual heritage of their background, if they would have been suspended?

To the person that found and returned my tax information I left at the Auburn Post Office -- thank you!

" All Irish are happy go lucky all the time? Are you serious? My ancestors were indentured servants which if you studied history, you would know that they were practically slaves in everyway but the title. The point I was trying to make was that no group should get a special month because almost every race has suffered at some point. And if you don't like the Irish analogy then how's this... there should be a Jewish History Month because when Hitler initiated the Holocaust, America knew and did nothing to stop him. The list of suffering races goes on and on. NO particular race should get special treatment. "

" Will you please leave the Smoker's alone. You can't make people stop smoking if they don't want to. But if tougher laws were passed to prevent smokers from lighting up at public outdoor events, and in the prescence of children, then I would be happy. My husband smokes, and he knows better not to smoke in front of me, or in the house, or in front of children. And I tell him everyday that he smells, but obviously he dosen't care. He says that he enjoys smoking and that is his right-and thankfully he has enough respect to not smoke around me or in our house. "

" Gee Sam....I'm sorry if the smell of a smoker's clothes are offensive to you. I know the feeling, because regardless of where I sit in a movie theater, I can pretty much rest assured that some overweight person with perspiration issues and a horrible case of body odor is going to sit right next to me. However, just like you, I can get up and move to a different seat. "

" and there is no reason for you to be concerned. These comments today are ridiculous. Write about something that matters. Smokers could care less about what you think. f I light up at home, inside my car or while walking down the street. Too bad. I enjoy it. "

" Why pick February for Black History Month---it is the shortest month? Headlights should be on all the time,---why not? The Irish do not need a month for their celebration,---they are happy -go - lucky, people all the time. PERIOD. "

NON-SMOKER wrote on Mar 7, 2007 3:29 PM:

" Smokers, STOP Whining. You have the right to kill yourselves with the Smoke, but WHY should we NON-SMOKERS be forced to die because of your NASTY habit. We have the right to CLEAN air, and have it NOT polluted by you. PS. Have you heard of the OZONE layer? If not go look it up. You smokers are the reason it’s thinning. "

Smoker have the right to smoke wrote on Mar 7, 2007 3:25 PM:

" Yes Smoker has rights. It’s not a problem that you smoke, blacken your lungs, smell up your house and clothes, cause fires to homes, put burn marks in cars, etc. It’s your choice. The problem is when your smoke in front of non-smokers, you are endangering their health. For example what would you do if a stranger was hurting your child? would you let it go on or stop it. Of course you would stop it, BUT that’s exactly what you are doing to other people and children, you are hurting them by smoking around them, same thing. Smoke all you want just not in front of other non-smokers especially your children, you are hurting them and nobody can deny that "

" Black Men were granted the right to vote in the United States, before White(and black) Women were. Women(including black women) have been opressed alot longer than black men have. A White Woman doing the same job, as a Black Man, typically earn less than the Black Man does. And those are the facts. "

irish student wrote on Mar 7, 2007 2:55 PM:

" i think that March should be Irish History Month. I am going to wait until almost the end of march and if they dont mention the irish enough then i am going to rally all of the irish students (and there's alot of them) and stage a sit in until all of our demands are met. Seriously if I did that then there would be reprocusions. I guarantee that we would atleast be given ISS if not suspended. People are too afraid to speak up because they are afraid of the race card and being labeled a racist. That was simply ridiculous. "

" It is stupid to call people stupid. No matter how they live their lives. If someone wants to smoke that is their choice. If they want to quit there are many aids available. But leave them alone. Let them do as they wish. We can now escape smokers so readily that I think non-smokers are turning into a big bunch of bullies. (As I would say the smokers used to be.) Leave them alone and let them make their own decisions. We are safe enough from their choice. "

" People that smoke are stupid!! Proof is: suppose you smoke a pack & a half a day, that's going to be $2190 a year that you're burning up, based on $4 per pack. Probably a conservative estimate, too. And that's money you could be spending on your kids or family. And what kills me is seeing these people that have next to nothing, but still smoke cigarettes. Tell me that's not stupid. Take that money and use it for something good, like toward a house, or get a car, SOMETHING!!! Just stop burning it up!! And don't get me going on the health aspects. Smokers are people that are too afraid to face quitting, too afraid to admit that it is stupid to be smoking. "

Sam wrote on Mar 7, 2007 12:56 PM:

" You smokers have rights too. I don't mind it, as long as I am not forced to inhale it in an enclosed area. You should have your own place to smoke. NY laws are wrong in not designating that. But you also should wash your clothes often, especially coats that don't get cleaned often & absorb smoke in cars.. You have no idea how bad you smell to others, both non smokers and smokers. too. "
