The recent filing of a formal complaint by school board member Joseph Leogrande is the result of misguided zeal. His allegation states that an illegal meeting took place among three other school board members.
The three members state that during a social meeting for breakfast some school issues were mentioned and Mr. Leogrande was informed of this by the three members via e-mail.
Following Mr. Leogrande's Bolshevik thinking, they have been caught, they should confess and they should plead for forgiveness. They have rightfully denied any wrongdoing. Mr. Leogrande has invited the blunt instrument of state government to uncoil itself and settle this dispute.
I have to ask some questions. If the goal of an education is to dispel ignorance and replace it with what we believe is the truth, what is the best way to do it? Do our well-salaried education elites have an answer? Do they have an explanation for the failing government monopoly on education? Test results are published regularly and speak for themselves.
Members of the U.S. Congress meet informally outside of committees to discuss the important issues they have been charged with. There is not enough time in formal committees to possibly discuss all the nuances and variations of complex issues.
The process of self-government requires that citizens meet and discuss the direction and method they wish to take to achieve a desirable result. The former committee meeting is the distillation of research carried out by its members. There, members can formally approve or disapprove the informed opinions of their colleagues.
To restrict school board members from thinking out loud and sharing their thoughts and ideas outside board meetings is impractical if not impossible. Time and energy are precious commodities and should not be squandered on a witch hunt. Thank you to the school board members who have chosen to serve in a positive and gracious manner.
