The Smith Opera House often presents shows as part of its Schooltime series that are geared toward young audiences. Schools attend as a field trip, or parents take children to the second showing.
On Tuesday, the Dallas Theater will be performing “A

Midnight Cry,” as part of the ongoing efforts to provide opportunities for children to enjoy theater and arts - and in this case, history.

The true story of Lida depicts the life of a young girl's journey to freedom on the Underground Railroad. She was forbidden any chance at an education as a black slave during 19th century America, but she does not let that hold her back.

When Lida is secretly taught how to read and write, she heads on a journey of truth and awareness on her quest toward the freedom the she learns is her right as a human being.
