700 Club Couples Tourney results
WEEDSPORT #- Thirty teams competed in two average divisions Saturday for the 700 Club Valentine's Couples Tournament at Rainbow Lanes.
Jim Bero and Noreen Faatz combined to roll 1,283, capturing the 377-and-over division to win $100. John and Angie Ryan (1,249, $80) were second, Bill Kuszaj and Mel DeTomaso (1,234, $60) finished third, Benny Appleby and Patty Wright (1,210, $50) came in fourth, while Dan Pilat and Becca O'Donnell (1,204, $40) placed fifth.
In the 376-and-under division, Steve and Doreen Suslik teamed up for 1,286 to win and take home $100. George and Sharon Mills (1,200, $80) finished second, Ed Monnell and Lisa Zeyak (1,163, $60) were third, Dave and Annette Blumer (1,147, $50) came in fourth, while Neal and Linda Baran (1,142, $40) were fifth.
Steve Suslik (782) had the high individual series for the men. Mike Walker Jr. (737), Monnell (729), Bero (713) and Phil Perkins (702) rounded out the top scorers. Walker bowled after completing an impressive seventh-place finish in the Syracuse Masters.
Sharon Mills (635) paced the women. She was followed by Angie Ryan (606), DeTomaso (595), Faatz (568) and Denise Ryan (563).
Rainbow Lanes provided a buffet dinner, and there was a surprise birthday cake for O'Donnell, who celebrated her 21st birthday.
The 700 Club Trios Tournament will be at 3 p.m., March 18, at Cedar House Lanes. It's limited to the first 18 teams. Call Dennis O'Donnell at 252-1939 or 224-2412 to reserve a spot.
Entries still open for city tourney
The 72nd annual Auburn United States Bowling Congress Men's Championships start at Rainbow Lanes with the team event. Available squads are: Feb. 24-25 (10 a.m., 2 p.m.), Feb. 26 and 28 (6:30 p.m.), March 1 (6:30 p.m., which is also a proprietors' squad) and March 2 (9:30 p.m., in which a bowling ball will be given out).
For doubles and singles at King Ferry Lanes, squads are: March 3-4 (10 a.m., 2:30 p.m.), March 9 (6:30 p.m.) and March 10-11 (10 a.m., 2:30 p.m.). Entry forms are at all area bowling centers. The team event costs $100, doubles and singles is $80, while all-events costs $10.
