Compromise needed on West Barrier Bar

We're encouraged to see a new proposal to address long-standing problems at West Barrier Bar, and we hope a compromise can be reached as to exactly what should be done with the land.

The 14-acres of land near Little Sodus Bay on Lake Ontario have been both a blessing and curse for area residents for years.

The lakeside property has immeasurable value as a place for picnicking, fishing and other recreation but is also a favorite clandestine party spot for young people. Sporadic vandalism has thwarted efforts to keep workable restrooms at the park and visitors and neighbors have long complained about broken beer bottles on the grounds and cars speeding along the access road.
