Governor Spitzer has created commissions to close correction facilities, the middle class jobs. What about all the high-paying Albany jobs created for constituents?
So, a woman for city manager is a last resort because “it can't get any worse than it is.” I bet you made it all the way to ninth grade, Bubba!

Maybe if the teachers in the Auburn High School district dressed properly, the students would, too.

Citizens shocked at their huge water bills should know that this city can only account for 43 percent of the water. In other words, 57 percent of our water, they don't even know what happens to it, and it's not all spillage.

With all these new laws about smoking, why don't they just close Emerson Park. Who needs it?

What difference does it make if AMH operates in the black in the year 2007 or 2008. The pension fund is still going to be $15 or $16 or $17 million still owed to them.

I'm just responding to the news on the television screen this evening about this lady on there complaining about smoking at Emerson Park. What are we going to do, outlaw open barbecue smoke, where the wind might pass it into her face, or other peoples?

Is it just stupidity or is it fraudulent that we are selling our sludge for $30 a unit, when it should be going for $120. That's why we are losing so much money on it for the last few months.

" Slavery was started by the Catholic Church. They started growing rice in the South, discovered they didnt know what they were doing and brought people over that did know what they were doing. That led to Slavery in America, look it up I was shocked myself! "

" Hey, The TRUTH... What's your point? Slaves may have been owned by only 6% of Americans, but they owned hundreds of them, because their plantations were huge. Regardless, of what percent of Americans owned them, it still dosen't make it right. "

Why stop with smoking? wrote on Feb 12, 2007 8:47 PM:

" I think we should ban smoking everywhere, even though it is not illegal. And while we are at it, ban alcohol, because a drunk might hit me. Ban fast food because obese people cause my insurance to go up. Ban anyone at the beach who hasn't passed a swimming test, because the insurance is too expensive. Ban cars that have exhaust, Ban anything made from none recycleable materials, Ban the mining of coal and the drilling of oil because they are non replenishable resources and cause global warming. Ban tree hugging, because it leads to you know what. Ban science and free thinking because people might form their own opinions.... "

Must be a very worthwhile position not worth cutting!! "

" You are preaching to the choir from my viewpoint. If we get the democrats back in power then we can remove the tax breaks from the wealthy and reduce the burden on the middle class. We should not stop helping the down and out and the mentally challenged but get that support from the wealthy. And if you believe that reducing taxes to the wealthy will stimulate the economy then I have some swampland to sell you. The only economy that will be stimulated will be those that take the bribes from the privledged. "

What's in a class? wrote on Feb 12, 2007 6:03 PM:

" "Lower classes?" From what century did you come? We don't call people "lower class" any more. We have the working poor, and we have people on assistance, and those who have fallen through the cracks, as well as the vanishing Middle Class (people making about $60,000-$100,000) and the wealthy, then the obscenely rich who have all the power -- that 2% or less of the population who control more than 80% of the wealth. The majority of people around here are working poor -- they work and make their bills, or struggle to do so, or don't and are forced into bankruptcy -- which was been made harder for the working poor (and not so bad for the wealthier) by the wealthy lawmakers a couple years ago (yes, I have worked in a bankruptcy law office so I know what I'm talking about). The Middle Class gets squeezed both ways -- kept out of the upper echelons so that paying for kids to go to college, particularly in today's market with immorally high interest rates and conditions (yes, I have a kid in college) will just about break them, buying one's own home, that dream of independence, will eat up every paycheck and leave nothing for the future, while their productivity is used to pay for spotty assistance to those with less. Those with less, i.e. working but not for enough to live on (esp. around here! And, yes, I lived like that, hand-to-mouth, despite multiple advanced educational degrees, for many years -- job opportunities around here are sparse, but sometimes family obligations keep you hear), just have a neediness which never abates and just keeps bleeding the Middle Class, as they continue to shrink in numbers -- the few who make it up and out, and more who sink to being working poor with mountains of debt. Long gone are the days when a person could get a good job, work at it all his life (in those days it was "his" life), and expect to own his own home, put his kids through college and have enough for retirement when the day came (yes, I now finally have a fairly decent job, but not enough to be beyond struggling). We have been robbing Peter to pay Paul for much too long; the pyramid scheme has reached its inevitable end, while the truly rich have set up laws as barriers to their having to help with any of it. The American Middle Class, along with the American Working Poor, have been supporting the world through our government's "foreign aid" (money given to buy influence on projects to increase the wealth of our obscenely rich, like our President) for so many generations now that there is none left for our children and grandchildren -- our well is running dry, and all this while, we have not been taking care of our own people -- our own poor, our own hard-working people who have fallen on hard times (yes, I have been one of those who fell between the cracks and lived for months on zero income while temporarily disabled but unqualified, on paper, for any government aid at all, despite having paid into it all the rest of my adult life -- don't believe in the Safety Net, it's a myth), on our own struggling Middle Classes trying to pay off their debts, put their kids through school and save for their retirement in a world where people live longer but so do their debts -- it's almost enough to make a person turn communist. Except we know that system doesn't work either -- it still ends up being a small elite who grant themselves privelege and to heck with the poor, the working poor and the struggling Middle Class. The American Dream is dead -- so don't add insult to injury by calling any layer of our society, our society which still supports the world's economy while sticking it to our own people, don't call any of us "lower class." "

You Get What You Pay For- wrote on Feb 12, 2007 3:50 PM:

" I have seen the light- I was angry about the tax hikes, but I think I am starting to see the master plan. Those of us who can afford it, need to Shut Up, because it will benefit us, in the long run. So, we may have to put up with some run-down houses, and unsavory areas in town, but not worry those places will be gone soon, along with the residents that live their. Just remember the old saying, "You Get What You Pay For." "
