For nearly 15 years, a local artist has been hard at work without enough notice for his talent.
Kept hidden away from the general public's viewing delight are beautifully hand-crafted pieces to fit anyone's taste. It is only recently that such a talented artist has had his work on display.
Malcolm Bancroft is a community member that does wood working as a hobby. Through his work, you can see the passion and heart that he puts into each and every piece he creates with nothing more than natural talent and a pattern to follow.
From a distance, the pieces are breathtaking. Take a closer look and that true handy work is revealed.
I have had the honor of viewing a few of his finished products that are truly incredible.
Malcolm has put together an eagle with a full wingspan. Each and every feather individually crafted and placed next to each other.
He has figured that nearly 55 labor hours went into the piece. He has several other animals that he has done with the same great attention to the smallest of details - butterflies with the most graceful wings along with a hint of color added; metal has also been added to act as antennas.
A sculptured motorcycle mounted on a platform cannot even be properly described with words. The different naturally colored woods along with the grain and texture mix amazingly. To certain works of art Malcolm has added some color to complement the natural look of the wood.
The ranges of woods that are used could not be incorporated better to fit the end result. The variety of wood that are used gives Malcolm the options of making the pieces look more life like. The animals have substance to them. Their facial features are more alive and their bodies' curve just the right way.
To view and purchase your own original piece, you can visit K.F. Bakery or Lojo's Gift Shop. Both are located in King Ferry and are right across the street from each other. Both businesses have been delighted to display Malcolm's works of art.
When I spoke with both business owners they agreed with one main idea. They both wanted to be part of helping other local business people and help keep more money within our community.
All of his art comes ready to be added to your already growing collection of attractive art or the start of a new collection.
Sculptures are mounted on platforms. If the piece is meant to be hung, it may be framed as a picture. It could also be raised up from a flat backing.
If you have something in mind that you know you would like or a loved one would enjoy, he has a solution. Over the years, Malcolm has put together a scrapbook filled with his astonishing creations. Some of his pieces are more simple minded than others. Overall, the same care, compassion, heart and drive can be seen throughout his work.
Any time I hear of a local artist, small business owner or any one that is putting effort into trying to keep more hard-earned money right here in our community, I feel the need to write. I feel the need to help them succeed. One good-hearted neighbor helping another.
It worked for so many years previous, and I want to help ignite the wild fire again of washing each others hands.
