Global warming? It sure doesn't# feel like it.
I think if they cannot get 150,000 to 200,000 troops from 50,000 from the U.S. or 75,000 and more troops from other countries, to get this Iraq and Afghanistan mess over with, then we should bring our troops home and have a downsurge, not an upsurge, eventually pulling out and letting the U.N. and other countries take over in Iraq.

Unlike Joanne Green, I give Murray Lynch all the credit in the world. He stood up to the Bushies more than all the Democrats in Congress.

I knew Hillary was lying when she moved to New York and insisted she had no intention of running for president. I can't trust a liar as far as I can spit!

Why is a local bowling establishment allowed to get away with letting its smoking patrons smoke in the vestibule, instead of following the law and making them smoke outside? Those of us who are non-smokers are sick and tired of continually coming home week after week with our hair and clothes still smelling like smoke because of this blatant disregard for the law!

We in the Auburn area who do not have cable are having a problem with CBS Channel 5 and NBC Channel 3. We're getting a very distorted picture.

The way I see it, nobody goes up to Emerson Park any more, anyway, not even the seagulls. So what difference does it make if you ban smoking or not up there?

Why do people buy dark green bags? Because you can't buy the clear ones in the stores.

I started to do The Citizen survey but it turned out to be endless, so I stopped. A much shorter survey, carefully planned, could provide The Citizen with the information it seeks.

The Citizen, Mr. Cosentino, et al, wake up! Creating another bureaucratic position for Owasco Lake will only add to those bureaucrats responsible for the lake's problems - DEC, county health department, Auburn and town of Owasco water departments.

Hey, mayor, when are the 1,500 jobs you promised coming? Second Tuesday, or next week?

I really believe we come to like what we're used to - such as in music - but when people try to push the envelope, we tend to resent the sound. Dave Matthews breaks every musical law but who's to say he's right or wrong?

Congratulations to the Cato-Meridian basketball team, handing state-ranked Onondaga Central only its second defeat of the season! We're proud of you guys!

The Merry-Go-Round Playhouse should be shut down also because it could catch fire and cause smoke in Emerson Park. What about the children?

Just a thought: Flowers wilt and die, candy is gone shortly, very fast. This Valentine's give something that lasts - yourself!

Hey Moravia school district voters: Please vote yes on Feb. 13. This way the state will help us pay for the project.

Scooter Libby shouldn't be on trial. Dick Cheney should be on trial for getting us into an uncalled war in Iraq.

The non-stop destruction of forest land and hedgerows and paving over of farmland is going to have much more serious consequences to the climate than burning fossil fuels, but there is little discussion of this because scientists do not get government grant money to study it.

To the persons complaining about smoking at Emerson Park: Come on, it's an open air area. You just want your face in the news.

Mr. Vargason says the facts show that Mr. Brown received a fair trial. Yet all the evidence pointing to Mr. Bench somehow never made it to the defense lawyers.

" The correct plural of JJ is JJs, not JJ's. The apostrophe has two meanings: either a possessive or a contraction. The most confusing use of this is the difference between its and it's because it doesn't follow its own rule -- English grammer isn't exactly always consistent. "It's" is a contraction, short for "it is." "Its" is the possessive, where the apostrophe is left out, I believe, to differentiate it from the contraction of "it is." Apostrophes are one of the most misused items in our language, sometimes laughingly so. And the person who wrote about the imbecile comment is right -- in that sentence there should be no apostrophe in imbeciles -- it was used as a plural, not a possessive, despite the writer's response. There was a long string of adjectives describing imbeciles, plural, not the other way around, not the imbecile's pomposity, etc. Man, I am shaking my head as I write this, it is all so absurd. "

" Mr. Mike Jones: Maybe or maybe not. If it’s wrong, then I will be more than happy to apologize to you (although I think that it can be hyphenated or not, but I’m not 100% on that). My original statement was to someone that called smokers “inconsiderate, self-centered, pompus, arrogant, disrespecting imbecile's.” Now, inconsiderate, ok. Self-centered, ok. Pompus, ok (but spelled wrong). Arrogant, ok. Disrespecting, ok. (Now by “ok” I mean that they can think what they want and not that those are my views). Now we have the last word in their sentence… “Imbecile's” which by definition is “A person of the second order in a former classification of mental retardation, above the level of idiocy, having a mental age of seven or eight years and an intelligence quotient of 25 to 50” (Dictionary.com). I have a slight problem with that, especially since they couldn’t properly punctuate it. I have no problem with other people’s opinions; in fact, it helps me to make my own. I am a firm believer that you can’t have an opinion without knowing and understanding the views of an opposing one. However, when someone comes here, and calls people “imbecile's” and doesn’t even know how to properly punctuate it, AND defends it with calling it a noun, but used it as an adjective (the proper noun in their sentence was “you people”), I think we know the imbecile. "

" I do my shopping at Tops and Wal-Mart, and cannot find the 39-gal. clear bags. I see that another reader gets them at Wegmans, but I don't see myself going there. Appleton picks up our trash in a rural area. I talked to them a couple of weeks ago about this issue, that I have trouble finding the 39-gal clear bags, and have noticed my neighbors use the dark-colored bags. I looked into this because Appleton says trash must be in clear bags. Now Appleton tells me that yes, the trash must still be in clear bags; and yes, people are getting away with using the dark bags, but won't for long. Our trash goes to the city of Auburn dump, and they are supposed to start cracking down on these dark-colored bags. Appleton also suggested using the 30-gal clear bags, which I have since bought. I like the 39-gal bags because they fit my trash barrel perfectly. I'll have to make some adjustments, but will keep using clear, like they request. I always thought they wanted it clear just to make sure there weren't any body parts in there.... "

" You may want to run that by your fifth-grade English teacher… Although your definition is correct, you did not use it that way. “You People are a bunch of inconsiderate, self-centered, pompus, arrogant, disrespecting imbecile's” does not show possession. Also, pompous is spelled wrong. "

JJ- Professor 2 cents wrote on Feb 9, 2007 5:31 PM:

" - Hey JJ- "Professor Two Cents" an apostrophe is used at the end of a noun (because that is what an imbecile is) to show possession, since I was atributing the descriptive adjectives to the imbecile as a group of people, my usage of the apostrophe is justified. And yes I know that public urination/ defacation is illegal for the simple fact that it's toxic and can make people sick. AND SO IS CIGARETTE SMOKE, SO WHY IS IT STILL LEGAL? "

" To Have Some DAMN RESPECT: If you’re going to call people imbeciles (and imbeciles, as you used it, doesn’t use an apostrophe), you shouldn’t make such moronic statements. Urinating and defecating in public, and smoking in public are a little different. One major difference is that urinating and defecating in public is illegal, while smoking in public (unless otherwise stated) is not. "

Garbage bags wrote on Feb 9, 2007 2:26 PM:

" Where I live, clear bags are the law; the dump won't take garbage in opaque bags and there is no municiple garbage pick-up. I always assumed this was so one couldn't "cheat" and put recyclables in the garbage since recycling is mandatory. I suppose it also prevents people from chopping up their enemies and throwing them out in the garbage which has happened in places like New York City. But it is a constant pain in the behind that local stores usually only have one single style of the clear bags when so many of these small surrounding communities require their use. I don't know why they even still make the black and dark green opaque bags. "

" I’m no expert on global warming, but I do know that the vast amount of snow that Oswego and surrounding areas are receiving is because of the unusually warm temperature of Lake Ontario and the cold artic air moving over it, producing a large amount of humidity in the air, resulting in the 7+ feet of lake effect snow they have. I’m not saying that it’s because of global warming, but it is because winter didn’t start until January this year, leaving the lake unusually warm for this time of year. As for Hillary, I remember a lot of talk about her running for President sometime in the future, when she first ran for the Senate. I find it hard to believe that you are surprised that she’s doing it now. "
