Hunsinger propels Moravia to postseason berth

MORAVIA - Claire Hunsinger had 27 points, 16 rebounds and six steals to help Moravia clinch a spot in the Section IV Tournament, defeating Marathon 65-40 in a girls basketball game Tuesday.
The Blue Devils used a 19-3 third-quarter run to put the game out of reach.

Angela Potter added 12 points and 10 rebounds for Moravia while Emilee Conner scored 10.

The Blue Devils (6-12) host Jordan-Elbridge Thursday for the school's senior night.

Weedsport 34, Tully 26

Markie Kreplin had 15 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks as Weedsport won a defensive battle on its senior night.

The Warriors' Jessica Hoffman hit two 3-pointers and Kaitlin Hammersley finished with seven points and 10 rebounds.

Weedsport (12-6 overall, 11-4 in league) travel to Onondaga Thursday.

LaFayette 35, Cato-Meridian 24

Meghan Meeks, Rachel VanNorstrand and Brittany Haskins each scored five points for the Blue Devils.

Cato-Meridian (5-11) hosts Weedsport Monday.

Marcellus 50, Skaneateles 43, OT

Caryn Crary led the Lakers with 18 points with four 3s and Lauren Adams had 10 points and 11 rebounds but Skaneateles was shut out, 7-0, in the overtime period.

Staci Dudden converted a layup with two seconds left in regulation to send to game to an extra frame but the Lakers didn't have much left.

“She's the heart and soul of the team,” Skaneateles assistant coach Dana Morse said. “There's no stats to show the amount of hustle she shows out there.”

Dudden finished with three steals, three assists, five rebounds and seven points.

This was the third meeting of the season for the two teams, with the Lakers winning the first two.

Skaneateles (12-7) travels to Hannibal Monday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Corcoran 72, Auburn 70

Damien Whitaker scored 21 points and hauled in 11 rebounds for the Maroons.

“I'm proud of these kids,” Auburn coach Al Giannone said. “We played with a lot of heart. That's as hard as we've played in a long time, even in a losing effort.”

Ryan Gleason added 17 points, Jimmy Pitts had 15 points and 10 rebounds, Travis McLeod dished out eight assists and Nick Chapman connected on three 3s.

Auburn (12-7) hosts Fayetteville-Manlius Friday.

Moravia 55, Marathon 49

The Blue Devils' Taylor Mackey scored 16 points, Patt Mott scored 15 and Jeremy Stewart chipped in with 11.

Moravia (4-14) awaits sectional seeding.

Marcellus 64, Skaneateles 48

John Eppolito led the Lakers with 13 points while Eric Richards provded 11.

Skaneateles (7-11) hosts Hannibal Friday.

HOCKEY

West Genesee 2, Auburn 0

West Genesee scored a power play goal in the first period and added an empty-net goal with 27 seconds left.

Tommy Trowell made 21 saves for the Maroons, who remain in second place.

Auburn (12-8-3) plays home, Friday against Fayetteville-Manlius for senior night.
