AUBURN - Kelly Grinnell scored 25 points, and senior Amanda Daum added 19 points and 10 rebounds as the Auburn girls basketball team defeated Corcoran 74-67 to clinch its first Section III Tournament seed in eight years.
“It's just a great win for our program, especially on senior night,” Auburn coach Gary Grinnell said.

“This group of seniors are the ones that turned this (program) around. They came in and put in all the work.”

Senior Molly Grinnell connected on four 3-pointers for 12 points while senior Kaitlyn Liccion added a 3 of her own.

Kelly Grinnell hit five 3s. In all, the Maroons tied their own school record with 11 buckets from behind the arc.

Caitlyn Jacobs continued her stellar defensive play, picking up 10 steals while Maggy Race provided a spark off the bench, scoring six big points.

Seniors honored include Molly Grinnell, Daum, Stephanie Buttaro, Liccion, Amy Armstrong and Desarae Johnson.

The Maroons (8-11) travel to Fayetteville-Manlius Friday. Girls sectional pairings will be announced Tuesday, Feb. 13.
