People living in Sennett calling the assessor's office, please call the corrected number in the new book, 253-8001, instead of my Auburn number.
Maybe if we had some cops walking the street and doing the beats like they did many, many years ago, maybe that would take care of some of the thugs on the street. The cops would be on the street and the cops would take care of them.

Just a suggestion: Have parents submit their enlisted child's overseas address to be published in The Citizen so the people of the community could write letters and send cards. A list was previously published in The Citizen on Nov. 11, 1990 during the Gulf War.

The Citizen's apology shown in a small correction notice on its front page on Jan. 29 can't possibly correct the damages done to the Great Garden Restaurant in Moravia. The newspaper needs to put their apology instead in big, bold letters so this small business can get its customers back again.

Kudos to Matt Smith and the council for getting that law passed for keeping pedophiles away from our kids. But they won't be totally safe until they keep Type II and Type I pedophiles away from the schools, too.

I'd like to quote a shirt I saw on the back of a cheerleader at a competition: “Athletes lift weights, cheerleaders lift athletes.” Cheerleading IS a sport.

" The other day I saw a very minor fender bender, however there were 3 police cars attending to this, none of the cars were blocking traffic and the people involved were on the sidewalk talking to 3 APD officers. If 3 wasnt enough as I passed by the scene, another APD car was coming down the street to join his buddies. How many police need to show up to something that minor??? Meanwhile in the rest of the city you cant find a cop if you needed one. AND then last night on my way home from work I saw 2 APD cars parked next to each other talking. Police beats on the streets??? Maybe if they did thier job from thier car we wouldnt need to consider walking beats on the streets! The thugs and the PBJ gang (the name kills me too funny) run free because APD is too busy looking the other way and wasting manpower on stupid things! Get real APD and do you job for a change! "

" Here's the problem with Auburn, You've got run-down houses because, people are leaving the city, due to lack of decent paying jobs. They sell their homes to some slumlord who turns into rental property and lets it go to pot. This has been the trend for years. People move up here from the big city to be closer to daddy and rent those houses. After the house is no longer habitable they let the city take it over. and there it sits...Now, since their aren't very many high paying jobs in Auburn, who do you think is going to be able to buy those houses and fix them up? Even if some savior did buy them, and fix them, who would be able to afford to rent it? This is why Auburn needs higher paying jobs!!! Keep bringing in the $8 an hour retail stores, and keep watching Auburn turn into slumville!!! "

It Starts With You wrote on Feb 7, 2007 5:43 PM:

" Some of the neighborHOODS in Auburn are all run-down because people are too scared to stand up to the trouble makers that are bringing them down. Instead, they move out, allowing more riff-raff to move to in. Seems as if it's too late in some areas to fix the problem, seeing that almost all of the decent folks have moved out. Those Hoods have just become different degrees of bad people. But for the other NeighborHOODS on the verge of becoming Hoods, the decent people need to get tough, and stand up to the Thugs, because they have been allowed to move onto streets and ruin them for long enough now, because people have been too scared to do anything about it. The police need to be more of a presence, working along side with the residents as well. The city of Auburn has ordinances in place to control run down homes, call the code enforcement officer, they have to respond, if the property owners do not comply, they will be fined, if they still don't comply the city can place a lien on their property!!! If you want to clean up your neighborhoods, you need to take action. Think about it, you may be complying and abiding by the law, but if you allow others to break it, then you're just as guilty as they are. On that note, maybe the city should hire a couple more Code Enforcement Officers. "

" Duh, The whole object of two cents is for people to complain. Look at you, you're complaining about the person complaining, and I'm complaining about you complaining about the person complaining. Oh, and by the way, you said "why not focus on the good things we have" then you said it's a "lose-lose situation" How is that focusing on the good things? "

Of Cell Phones and Snowplows wrote on Feb 7, 2007 2:51 PM:

" I have to laugh at a new proposed law being introduced in New York -- the banning of iPods and other hand-held electronic devices in crosswalks -- because three people in Brooklyn have been killed recently when they were hit by vehicles because they were distracted by their electronic devices. In Auburn, we can't even get the police to do anything about drivers using cell phones in their cars -- good luck stopping pedestrians from talking on their cell phones and listening to iPods while crossing the street when they should be focussed on not getting hit by those same drivers talking on their cells phones while failing to stop at the crosswalks! Meanwhile, I am still having Dangerous Adventures with Snowplows -- after last week being forced onto the shoulder twice and once into the lane of on-coming traffic all in the space of perhaps 5 miles, this week I watched a plow operator cross the center line with his head turned a full 90 degrees as he was looking intently across the field to one side of the road and not watching where he was driving (like, almost driving into me!) at the same time. I am starting to wonder if I have some kind of crossbow target on my car that says Hey, Snowplow Drivers -- Hit me! "

grow up wrote on Feb 7, 2007 1:44 PM:

" The only thing truly wrong with Auburn is the fact that there are people like you who can't grow up. Stop complaining about every little thing and, maybe for once, focus on the good things we have. If you truly hate this city so much, LEAVE! No one is ever going to be completely happy so it's a lose-lose situation. Just learn to deal with it. Life goes on after someone pushes their snow into the road. Some people have no ethics. There is nothing we can do about it. If you feel the need to complain so much, take it to city hall- not on some newspaper. It's really funny how people can call out other people on things they're doing wrong yet when they get called out themselves, they can't take it. LOVE IT! "

" Tell the kids to grin and bear it and walk through the snowy sidewalks. The roads aren't much clearer. It's much safer for themselves and drivers, but people should shovel the sidewalks - AND NOT ONTO THE ROAD AS SOME PEOPLE DO!!! "

Pedophiles--- wrote on Feb 7, 2007 12:24 PM:

" Pedophiles should have to wear a collar, similar to the ones used to keep dogs inside invisible fences. Example: Schools should install invisible fences that emit a high electrode frequency, that way when a pedophile gets too close he gets zapped, falls to his knees and is rendered imobile, in the meantime an alarm is sent to the police so that they can track him, because his collar also has GPS on it. "

Sick and Tired wrote on Feb 7, 2007 11:23 AM:

" What will the 500 feet rule do for the pedophiles? They can still eye the kids and see which way they go and then follow them. It is ridiculous to say the least! The West End is a haven for them and as a result, we are surrounded on 3 sides by them where we live. How frustrating! "

" Cops should indeed walk a beat, but that still won't guarantee that the scumbag thug a$$ gangsta wannabee's will be dealt with any differently than they are now, thay will still go on their violent crime spree way without a care of who they harm or the devastation they leave behind with no accountability what so ever for their actions!!! It's time for this community to OPEN the eyes!!! "
