As I write this January column, the Girl Scout's Bayberry Program Center in Seneca County is blanketed in a winter wonderland ... which means lots of fun for Girl Scouts as they can cross country ski, try snow shoes and sled, here at Bayberry and at our Yaiewano Program Center south of Auburn on Owasco Lake.
Speaking of ... there will be a Winter Adventure Weekend Feb. 16 to 18 at our center near Corning for girls ages 11 to 13 from all over.
And outdoor fun is just the beginning.
Coming for girls in grades K-5 in Auburn
Join the Girl Scouts and Cornell Cooperative Extension for an evening of eating well and playing hard.
At the “Eat Well, Play Hard” event on Friday, Feb. 9, girls will make a healthy snack, learn cup stacking and participate in the milk challenge and Dance, Dance, Revolution.
The fun begins at 6:30 p.m., at the Cornell offices on Grant Avenue.
For more information and to register, call Lisa Kaminski at 539-5085 ext. 727 or e-mail lkaminski@girlscoutssevenlakes.org.
The cost is $5 per girl. Current Girl Scout members should bring a non-member friend.
What's been up in other areas? More fun of course.
Cato-Meridian:
Girl Scouts in Cato-Meridian have made trips to the Corning Museum of Glass where they made glass picture frames.
They celebrated our founder, Juliette Low's birthday with a weekend camping trip to Yaiewano.
Girl Scout Troop 14 held a food drive for St. Patrick's Church and Girl Scout Troop 85 made bag holders for the senior citizens at Hillview Terrace and fruit baskets for the seniors there during the holidays.
Moravia:
In the Moravia area, the coming months are packed with fun. Girls will be swimming at a party at the Skaneateles Recreation Center, and helping residents of Northwoods decorate for Valentine's Day and make cards to send to their families and friends.
The adult volunteers in Moravia know how to have fun too.
A leader getaway encampment is planned in February at Yaiewano.
The women will share ideas and make plans for the remainder of the Girl Scout year ... as they enjoy good food, fun and each other's company as well as the wealth of information they possess.
Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.
