Local call center expands base
A call center with offices in Auburn and Syracuse recently grew its customer base to more than 1,000 with the acquisition of a Colorado-based answering service and celebrated a milestone.
Finger Lakes Business Services has been handling calls for Communications Center of Steamboat Springs since November. The four-year-old company also answered its 10,000,000th call Jan. 3.
The call center counts apartment complexes, funeral homes, professional services, crisis lines and contractors among its clientele.

Planning meeting to be held Thursday
The regularly scheduled meeting of the New York State General Municipal Law 239 Review Committee of the Cayuga County Planning Board will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, in caucus room 2 on the sixth floor of the Cayuga County Office Building, 160 Genesee St., Auburn.

Auburn residents Nicolette Hai and Linda Huber earned the Excellent Beginnings Program Achievers for sales they made in their first 15 weeks selling lia sophia jewelry, the company announced. The company is a direct seller of fashion jewelry.
Patricia Shaw and Johanna Lynch have been promoted from advisor managers to unit managers.
Online filing set for state business taxes
The state Department of Taxation and Finance will allow business people who file periodic sales tax returns, yet have no taxable sales to report, may now file online using a new electronic tax service.
The office's “no sales tax due” online return is a service to allow taxpayers to file returns in a secure manner, acting commissioner Barbara G. Billet said.
Taxpayers may access the service at www.nystax.gov/nyshome/online.htm and clicking on business registration.
Red Cross to teach disaster preparation
Free emergency/disaster training will be available at the Port Byron Library from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan 17.
Sponsored by the Cayuga County chapter of the American Red Cross, the class will teach people how to prepare for emergencies in the home, at work or at play.
Individuals who take the class will better understand through three simple steps the importance of preparing for and being able to respond to an emergency or disaster wherever they are.
Preregistration is required for the class. To register, or to get more information, call 252-9596 or e-mail chapter@ccredcross.org.
